Our Spring Carnival and silent auction is quickly approaching! To help make our silent auction a success, each advocacy will be collecting items to be assembled into a basket that will be sold at the silent auction to be held at the Spring Carnival on May 25th from 2:00-6:00pm.

This year we will need 2 parent volunteers per pod to assemble the baskets once the items are collectedThe SignUp Genius below includes items for the baskets in the Kindergarten pod. We are not collecting cash donations for baskets this year and instead are focusing on items and gift cards related to the basket theme. Please send donated items in with your child no later than May 19th.

Advocacy Week of February 6th

Hi families,

As previously mentioned, the kindergarten class will be going out within the community to show kindness! On February 14th, kindergarteners will walk to the Bus Barn and distribute cards we will be making in class. We will have some of our awesome high school students join our class as chaperones, so we do not currently need any additional chaperones.

Please submit the following permission slip by February 10th to allow your student to join this field trip.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Advocacy Week of February 13th

Hi kindergarten families!

Valentine’s Day is about two weeks away, but you do not need to buy card for your student to bring to school.  The tradition at Westgate is for our students to go into the community on Valentine’s Day and distribute cards to our neighbors on something we call Kindness Day which is part of Kindness Week.  Students make the cards at school. We’re lining up delivery locations now and as we get closer to the date, we’ll send details and a permission slip.  Our high school students are chaperoning with the younger grades, so we do not need parent volunteers at this time.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Advocacy Week of January 9th

Hi kindergarten families!

Welcome back and Happy New Years! I hope your break was fun and restful!

This month in advocacy, we will be discussing empathy and what it means to be empathetic to ourselves. Before we dive into this topic, we will remind ourselves how to be safe in and outside of the classroom, especially during carline.

Another quick update is that we will be having a field trip on January 24th! We will be visiting the Colorado Symphony to watch the exciting concert 'Drums Around the World.' More information about this field trip and opportunities to chaperon will be emailed on Friday, January 13th.

Please feel free to discuss these big topics with your students.

Advocacy

Hello!

I am Jenny Lubang and I am your child’s Advocacy Teacher/ Advocate. Advocacy is more than a Homeroom. Advocacy classes are first and foremost a time for students to build supportive relationships with their peers and with an adult they can trust. It is a time for everyone to feel recognized and welcomed into the school community. As your child’s Advocate, I will be your primary point of communication, and I am committed to advocating for your child this year.

I began my teaching career 4 years ago and I consider myself a lifelong learner!  I feel it is so important for me to provide a safe and welcoming environment where students can grow and tackle challenges.

I have subscribed you to my Advocacy page and my classroom pages, so you will receive updates to your email automatically.  Please follow this link for weekly updates, academic information, upcoming events and other information:

This quarter, your child will have PE with Mr. Wise. You are not pre-subscribed to her Edlio page, so please go to Mr. Wise’s page and subscribe!”

This month, our August Advocacy theme is RISE!

At Westgate, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a part of our Whole Child Education program. PBIS is a system in which students, staff and community create a set of school-wide behavioral expectations/ core values, we teach those expectations in all of our various environments, and then we CELEBRATE when we see students doing those things! At Westgate, we RISE (Respect, Integrity, Safety, Empathy).

Week 1

R

What does RESPECT mean?

Being kind to people, property, and yourself. Being considerate of our community.

Week 2

I

What does INTEGRITY mean?

Telling the truth and doing the right thing even when nobody is looking.

Week 3

S

What does it mean to be SAFE at school?

Act in ways that won’t harm yourself or others.

Week 4

E

What is EMPATHY?

Understanding and caring about the feelings of others.

We will be teaching students what these 4 words mean—focusing on a different part of RISE each week—and what it looks like to live these values out during school and at home. We will use RISE all year to celebrate positive behaviors.

I am excited for the school year!
