Literacy Week of May 15th

We will continue our last unit of the year, unit 10! In unit 10, we will explore American leaders! In addition to this, now that we've explored all of our letter sounds, we will now work on building words. We have finished all of our sight words of the year and will be reviewing our December and January words! Please let me know if you need any sight word pages.

Literacy Week of May 1st

We will finish our last lesson in unit 9 this week! We have been exploring the importance of following rules, but specifically this week, we will discuss how we have rules (laws) set in place to keep our community safe. In unit 9, we will be working on the short and long sounds of each of our vowels. The sight words we will be working on this week are 'write,' 'get, and 'where.' These are the last of our sight words! 

Literacy Week of April 24th

We will continue to work on unit 9 this week! In unit 9, we explore the importance of following rules, but specifically this week, we will discuss how we have social rules that help us to get along (like sharing and taking turns). In unit 9, we will be working on the long sound of 'e'. The sight words we will be working on this week are 'would,' 'time,' more,' and 'two.' 

Literacy Week of April 17th

We will begin unit 9 this week! In unit 9, we explore the importance of following rules. To support with this, we will be reading stories like 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit.' In unit 9, we will be working on the long sound of 'u'. The sight words we will be working on this week are 'these,' 'make,' 'into,' and 'would.' 

Literacy Week of April 10th

We will be continuing unit 8 this week. This week, we will discuss the importance of protecting the habitats of animals. In the third lesson of Unit 8, we will be working on the long sound of 'o'. The sight words we will be working on this week are 'about', 'many', 'them', and 'so'. 

Literacy Week of April 2nd

We will be continuing unit 8 this week. This week, we will continue to explore the habitats of animals and how they're created. In the second lesson of Unit 8, we will be working on the long sound of 'i'. The sight words we will be working on this week are 'out', 'other', 'will', and 'about'. 

 

Literacy Week of March 27th

We will be beginning Unit 8 this week! In unit 8, we will explore the different types of homes animals create in the wild. In the first lesson of Unit 8, we will be working on the long sound of 'A'. The sight words we will be working on this week are 'each', 'if', 'use', and 'which'. 

Literacy Week of March 6th

This week, kindergartners will practice their writing skills by sounding out cvc words, work on letter recognition, and identify the setting and characters in a story. 

Literacy Week of February 27th

We will continue our second week in unit 7. In this week, we will continue to explore the needs of plants with explanatory and informational texts. The letters we will be introducing are 'y' and 'z'. We will also review the letters 'w,' 'k,' 'q,' and 'e.' The sight words we will be working on this week are 'one,' 'are' and 'or'.

Literacy Week of February 21st

We will continue our second week in unit 7. In this week, we will continue to explore the needs of plants with two poems and one short story. The letters we will be introducing are short 'e' and 'q'. The sight words we will be working on this week are 'how,' 'from' and 'one'.

Literacy Week of February 13th

We will be beginning Unit 7 this week! In unit 7, we will explore the needs of plants and how their environment impacts their survival. The letters we will be introducing in the first lesson of unit 7 are 'w' and 'k'. In addition to this, we will be starting our sight words for February! The sight words we will be working on this week are 'your,' 'words' and 'their'.

Literacy Week of February 6th

This will be our last week in unit 6! In unit 6, we will continue to read stories and poems about culture and traditions around the world. The first story we will explore is an informational text about the cultures around the world titled "A Collection of Cultures." The second story is an exert from "My Dadima Wears a Sari." In addition to these stories, we will also review the letters x, z, j, f, and short u. Lastly, kindergarteners will be introduced to the following sight words: this, an, and not. 

Literacy Week of January 30th

We will be continuing our 6th unit in our literacy curriculum! In unit 6, we will read stories and poems about culture and traditions around the world. In addition to this, kindergartners will be introduced to the letter's 'u' and 'x'. Lastly, we will review and introduce the following sight words this week: by, then, when, and be. 
 
Last week we completed our PALs testing and will take any makeups.

Literacy Week of January 23rd

We will begin our 6th unit in our literacy curriculum! In unit 6, we will read stories and poems about culture and traditions around the world. In addition to this, kindergartners will be introduced to the letters 'j' and 'f'. Lastly, we will review the following sight words this week: little, by, and then. 
 
Throughout this week kindergartners will also take the PALs assessment to identify their skills in alphabet recognition, phonemic awareness, and rhyming words.
