Hogwarts on Friday!

Hello 11th Grade,

This week our seminar time will be co-opted by Hogwarts Day! Here is the message from Mr. Cuevas:

Hello, Wonderful Westgate Families!

I have an exciting announcement: our annual Hogwarts Day will be Friday of next week, October 27th! Students can look forward to joining like-minded friends for a day of fun, food, and activities. Is your student a clever Ravenclaw or an ambitious Slytherin? A loyal Hufflepuff, or a daring Gryffindor? Students may join whichever group they feel most comfortable with for the day, and we encourage them to dress the part! If a student is unsure of their house or comfortable with any of the groups, we will find a place for them as well.

During the day, students will be engaging in Hogwarts-themed classes with their house (Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, etc), learning and competing to earn points towards the House Cup. Can they do well enough to usurp the reigning champion of Ravenclaw? Quidditch, a sport from the world of Harry Potter, will take place in the afternoon outdoors. Please see the attached slideshow for details!

Our schedule will be as follows:

8:00 – 8:45: Breakfast in the Great Hall (HS Commons)

8:45 – 9:45: House Decorating

9:45– 10:45: Begin Class Rotations (2 classes)

10:45 – 11:15: Quidditch Prep and House Time

11:15 – 12:15: Lunch

12:15 – 1:45: Class Rotations (3 classes)

1:45 – 3:15ish: Quidditch!

3:15: Ending Circle/Awarding of the House Cup

Important: For our morning breakfast, we are requesting donations from any family who would like to contribute. We would be extremely grateful for anything you can donate – every little bit helps add to a meaningful start to the students’ day. Please follow the link below to find a SignUp Genius with items we need.

(email me if you need me to send you this link - Brinkley)

As always, thank you for being such an amazing part of our community and for allowing us to teach such incredible students. Even if your student is not a fan of the Hogwarts world, I hope they are looking forward to a day of activities and fun.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected]

Best,

Tim Cuevas

Head of Gryffindor House

Seminar on 10/20

Hello 11th Grade,

There are several things that will take up most of our advocacy time:

We will need to work on the trunk for trunk-or-treat during morning circles and part of seminar time during the week. That should be enough time. Be thinking about what supplies we will need to make that awesome.

During part of seminar on Friday, we will be in Hogwarts houses to determine with each house what to do for decoration of the houses. Hogwarts day is on October 27th.

I hope you all had some time to rest, and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning!

Seminar on 9/15

Hello 11th Grade,

We are looking to develop a routine where we can spend a portion of our seminar time each week on three main categories:

1. Scholarly Health Check-in: High School and College Grades, Deadlines and due dates, Need to contact H.S. teachers or professors.

2. Fundraising for 11th and 12th grade trips. What events do we have happening soon? What events do we need to organize and plan?

3. Logistics and planning of the 11th grade trip to Santa Fe? Decisions about meals, job responsibilities, groupings.

Seminar on 9/8

Hello,

This week in our seminar, we will be taking the final survey for the LST training we took during our freshman year. Also, once again, a reminder that Friday the 8th is individual picture day.

-Jason Brinkley

Good afternoon!

This Thursday, August 31st, we will be holding Virtual Curriculum Night from 5:00 - 6:00 PM. Tune in to see teachers talk about their classroom plans for the year followed by a time for questions. Please note that this will be for general or class questions; if you have a specific question about your child, please email the teacher!

FRCC, Pete the Dog Retires

Hello,

Notable events happening this week are that FRCC classes begin. Be sure your student knows when and where their classes meet so they don't miss important first-day information.
Also, on Friday is the all-school celebration for the retirement of our beloved Pete the service dog! We will miss you and wish you all the best in your retirement!
