Hi, Westgate students and families! I'm Miles Lee, and I teach 9th–11th grade English Language Arts (ELA) at Westgate High School. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English from Metropolitan State University of Denver, and this is my third year in education and first year at Westgate. 

 

As an educator, I believe in meeting students where they are and helping them grow into the best, most authentic versions of themselves. Each student brings different experiences, interests, strengths, and opportunities for growth to the classroom, and it's my goal to create a learning environment where those differences are appreciated and valued. I'm growth-oriented and believe meaningful learning and change happen when students feel supported enough to take healthy risks, ask questions, make mistakes, and keep moving forward. 

 

In my classroom, students can expect plenty of reading, writing, inquiry, discussion, dialogue, creativity, and opportunities to create--classes that are more than analyzing books and placing commas correctly. Reading the world and writing our experiences help students see themselves, connect with other people and cultures, examine the world as it is and imagine how they might help change it, and develop their individual voices and sense of agency. Students can also expect the occasional side quest when an unexpected question or idea takes us somewhere worth exploring. 

 

Outside of school, you can find me hanging out with my teenage son, Harrison, and our mini goldendoodle, Barry. We love road trips, hiking, visiting national and state parks, exploring historical sites, and finding unusual or overlooked places along the way. I'm always open to an adventure—especially if it begins with, “We have time—what's down that road?”

 

I'm excited to be part of the Westgate community, learn alongside students, and build relationships throughout the school community. I look forward to a growth-filled year rooted in curiosity and creativity, and worthwhile side quests!
