Staff Profile
My name is Kelly Ann Scott, and I am thrilled to serve as the Director of Gifted Education at Westgate Community School. I began my career teaching high school English. I then went on to earn my Masters in Special Education: Gifted and Talented. I served as a high school gifted coordinator before taking a district role supporting gifted education across multiple charter schools. For the past two years, I have been part of the Adams 12 Five Star Schools community as the Charter Liaison for Special Populations. I am so excited to prioritize my passion for gifted education by joining the Westgate team in the 2026-2027 school year.
My journey as an educator was greatly shaped by a specialized summer program at the University of Northern Colorado. In my many years as a camper and employee, I was transformed by the program, which pioneered whole child gifted education. This drew me to state and national leadership roles in gifted education that emphasized the whole person, including Network Chair for the National Association for Gifted Children's Global Awareness Network. I am also an avid learner, and I am in the final stretch of my doctorate program in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, with a research focus on leadership policy impacting gifted learners in charter and magnet schools.
My charge is to ensure that our students are seen, understood, taught, challenged, and advocated for. My work as the Director of Gifted Education includes teacher development, leading identification for gifted services, supporting gifted best practices across all classrooms, providing family-facing learning and support, and ensuring that gifted services provide a rich K-12 experience that meets students' unique needs. I am excited to help develop Westgate Community School as a cutting-edge leader in transformative whole child gifted education.
Outside of school, I love spending time with my husband and three children. We enjoy tending our small homestead, going on adventures as a family, and being weird and creative together. I'm a reader, crafter, and published writer. A few times a year, I spend time in my happy place, the San Juan mountains of the Western Slope (where I grew up).
I am truly honored to be part of the Westgate team, and I look forward to partnering with our school community to help students thrive!
