What: PSAT/NMSQT School Day Administration for current 11th grade students
**This is an optional test, but we highly recommend participating! You may participate just to practice the SAT, or you may want to try your very best and attempt to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. If you do not plan to participate, please notify Dale Kern.

Date: Tuesday, October 26th, 2021
**No other High School classes will occur on this day. Only 11th grade students will report to school on October 26th to take the PSAT/NMSQT.

Time: Please arrive between 7:45am-7:50am for check in. Doors will close at 8:00am and no students will be permitted to enter the High School after 8:05am.

Location: At Westgate Community School in the High School classrooms

What to bring: Students only need to bring a mask, a light jacket, a water bottle and a few snacks (if desired during breaks). Any additional items that your student brings with them will be kept in a separate, locked room during the test (including cell phones).

Other things to consider on test day:

  • ALL cell phones, smart watches, and other electronics will need to be kept out of the testing rooms. If a cell phone were to go off during the tests, it could invalidate all the tests. Students will not have access to their cell phones until after all testing is completed.
  • Students will not be permitted to leave early, so please communicate that with them and plan pick up (if applicable) accordingly. Dismissal will be around 12:15pm.
  • Students need to eat a full, healthy breakfast before coming. Any other beverages besides water will not be permitted by students in the testing rooms.
  • We will provide pencils and calculators- no need to bring your own.
  • If students have FRCC classes during this time on October 26th, it will be up to the student to communicate with his/her professor(s) about being gone for this assessment. Most students will still be able to attend their afternoon classes at FRCC after the PSAT concludes. Students are responsible for their own transportation to FRCC.
  • The testing environment will align with current classroom expectations regarding masks and seating assignments.

Pre-administration and Practice:

  • Juniors will complete the PSAT/NMSQT Pre-Administration during class on Friday, October 22nd.
  • Your student will need to know additional information for the assessment from parents/guardians. As part of the pre-administration, they will be asked to answer questions about how many years of school each parent/guardian completed. Even if not in contact with a parent/guardian, this information could help them obtain consideration for certain scholarships. Only a few pieces of the pre-administration are required of all students, so if you or your student does not feel comfortable answering those questions, they may choose to leave them blank.
  • The assessment itself will take approximately 3 hours with breaks included. Students can bring a snack or two, as well as water to keep with them during the testing and be consumed during our breaks. We will provide pencils and calculators- no need to bring your own.
  • Nothing builds confidence like practicing! I do strongly suggest doing some extra practice before the assessment. Practice can be done on Khan Academy or on CollegeBoard and psat.org/practice. Your student will also be receiving a Student Guide to bring home and complete practice tests.
