Dear Family,

This week we will continue learning all about the strong female leaders: Helen Keller, Amelia Earhart, Mae Jemison, Rosa Parks, and Sacagawea.  Why are these leaders so important and why is it important that we learn about them?

This week we are learning about 3 of our female great leaders!  We will learn about Helen Keller, Amelia Earhart, and Rosa Parks.  We will make connections between the leaders we learned about last week, and make connections to learns today. Why are these leaders so important?

This week we will continue our imaginary trip around the world as we investigate how other cultures celebrate their winter holiday. We will continue to examine traditions and create fun crafts that symbolizes each country we visit. Students will have their very own boarding pass and passport to document our travels. This is truly one of our favorite units!  We will be "going" to America on Friday in addition to our Friday Field Trip :)

Science 11/16/2020-11/21/2020

Hello Parents! 
This week we will learn all about Turkeys, their habitat, and make connections to what we already know about living things. We will compare fiction and non-fiction texts about turkeys and document any misconceptions we have about turkeys. Students will label a turkey and look at the turkey lifecycle!
On Friday an email was sent home with a fun family Turkey activity.  Students have a turkey coloring sheet in their science packet.(It was also attached in the email).  The expectation is that this is completed at home and finished no later than Thursday November, 20th. Have fun and get creative designing and creating a disguise for your turkey! Students will share their creation during advocacy all week!

Hello, 
This week we will be learning about Veteran's Day. What is a veteran? What do Veteran's do? What are the five branches of the military? We will make connections to our advocacy lessons and investigate how our military members serve our communities.

Dear Parents,

This week we will be learning all about animal needs habitats. We will begin investigating animals and comparing/contrasting them to plants.  Some questions we will answer during our study will be: Do all animals live in the same place?  Why or why not?  What do animals need to live and grow?  How do you know?

Science 10/26/2020-10/30/2020

Hello Parents,
 
This week is going to be a fun week leading up to Halloween.  This week we are doing our Pumpkin Palooza!  We are going to continue talking about living and nonliving things while exploring the lifecycle of a pumpkin.  We are going to dissect a pumpkin and see what it looks like on the inside.  Then, we are going to make a Jack-o-latern "Jack,"  who we are going to watch decompose slowly in the next month.   On Wednesday we are doing a pumpkin hunt and our pumpkin exploration. We will be making pumpkin glyphs based on our likes and dislikes.

You can support your student at home by investigating living and nonliving things.  How do they know it is living/nonliving?  You can search for pictures and videos about living things and pumpkins. 

Science 10/19/20-10/23/20

Hello Parents, 
This week we are starting our unit on Living and Non-Living things. We will begin by looking at the needs of a plant and the plant lifecycle. Students will be able to identify the parts of a plant, label the plant lifecycle, and illustrate what plants need to survive.

This week in Social Studies we are continuing to time travel and learn about things in the past.  Wednesday we are learning how transportation has changed and Thursday we are learning about how games have changed. We will be discussing similarities and differences throughout the week. Friday we will do our post assessment on Seesaw.

This week we will continue learning how to read maps and how to create them. We will be able to identify different land forms and climates as we make more discoveries about maps and globes.

Social Studies 9/14/20-9/18/20

I am so excited to welcome students back into the building! This week we will wrap up our unit on Rules and community with a post assessment. We will the begin learning all about maps. What is a map? How is a map used? What features help us use maps? These are just some of the questions we will answer this week.

Support Your Student at Home: 
You can support your student at home by looking for the ways we use maps in our every day life (car GPS, Google Maps, at the Mall). Explore the compass app on your smart phone or tablet and go on an adventure walk around you yard or neighborhood. 
 
Students will attend school on their designated day (group A M/W or group B T/H) and will have asynchronous lessons and activities posted to Seesaw on the days they are not in school. Please be sure to check Seesaw on the days your student is learning from home. For students who have opted out of returning to the classroom, there will be activities and asynchronous lessons posted to Seesaw each day.
