Objective Students will learn and understand what energy is and have a basic understanding of the different types of energy that exist.

Monday Vocabulary

Students should review & write down the vocabulary words & definitions for the week.  Afterwards, students will create a Frayer Model for each vocabulary word.  The Frayer Model has been explained & students will have an example to view.  The PDF of these words has been posted into Teams.  Please go to Science, then click on the “Vocabulary” Channel on the left-hand side.  Next, click files at the top.  There is a PDF entitled “Science Vocab. Week 5”.  Students should write these definitions in their notebook, then complete the Frayer Model.  There is also a PDF entitled “Vocabulary Frayer Model” to which students may refer.

Tuesday – Live lesson at 11:00am

We will introduce the concept of energy and brainstorm different types of energy that exist.  We will read and discuss the following articles:

  • All About Energy
  • Types of Energy

Students should read the following articles on Studies Weekly and answer the comprehension questions at the bottom of each article.  The articles are titled:

  • Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
  • How are fossil fuels formed?
  • Heat Energy Transfer

Thursday – Live lesson at 11:00am

We will review the articles from the previous day and go over answers to student questions.  We will watch additional videos regarding energy, types of energy, and energy transfer.   We will also complete the “Energy Einstein” page together.

Friday – (graded assignment) Complete the Week 5 Social Studies Quiz on www.studiesweekly.comStudents are permitted to go back to the articles to reread in case they have forgotten something!

Please note that Studies Weekly may provide students with a project and/or activity that involves materials.  These activities are optional and can be done at home with parent support if you and your child are interested.  They are not required.

Objective Students learn the function of microscopes and the basic ways in which they work.  Students will understand that our knowledge of matter is based on our ability to use microscopes since particles are too small to see without tools.

Week 4”.  Students should write these definitions in their notebook, then complete the Frayer Model.  There is also a PDF entitled “Vocabulary Frayer Model” to which students may refer.

Tuesday – Articles

Students should read the following articles on Studies Weekly and answer the comprehension questions at the bottom of each article.  The articles are titled:

  • A Microscopic World
  • Who Invented the World Wide Web?

Week 3:  Physical Science – Matter Changes

www.studiesweekly.com

Please note that Studies Weekly may provide students with a project and/or activity that involves materials.  These activities are optional and can be done at home with parent support if you and your child are interested.  They are not required.

Objective Students learn that matter takes up space and has observable properties.  Students will learn that matter can change states and how this process occurs naturally.  Students will determine the structure of molecules within a given phase.

Monday - Labor Day – No School – Students are not required to complete any assignments.

Tuesday - Vocabulary – Direct instruction via Zoom, 11:00 -11:30 a.m.

Students will discuss & review the 4 weekly vocabulary words. Students will create a Frayer Model for each vocabulary word.  The Frayer Model will be explained during the lesson & students will have an example to go view.    The PDF of these words has been posted into Teams.  Please go to Social Studies, then click on the “Vocabulary” Channel on the left-hand side.  Next, click files at the top.  There is a PDF entitled “Sci Vocab. Week 3”.  Students should write these definitions in their notebook, then complete the Frayer Model.  There is also a PDF entitled “Vocabulary Frayer Model” to which students may refer.  If time allows, we will begin reading and discussing the first article entitled “Matter Changes”.

Wednesday – Articles – The properties of matter and how matter can potentially change.  We will watch and discuss the accompanying videos together.  Their assignment afterwards is to finish these Science articles which are titled:

  • Energy & Change
  • Joseph Priestly
  • Nylon is Invented

Thursday – Articles & Review - Direct instruction via Zoom, 11:00 -11:30 a.m.

We will review the articles & answers from the previous days to ensure understanding and allow students to ask questions.  We will prepare for the Week 3 quiz by reviewing the properties of matter and how matter can change, both physically & chemically.  Their assignment is to complete the electronic crossword puzzle on Studies Weekly.  Students will be shown how to access this during class.

Friday – (graded assignment) Complete the Week 3 Social Studies Quiz on www.studiesweekly.comStudents are permitted to go back to the articles to reread in case they have forgotten something!
