Unit 1 – Earth Science 

Topic 2 – Tsunamis & Engineering 

This week, we will learn how tsunamis are caused by underwater earthquakes.  Students will be introduced to the engineering process and apply it by designing model houses to withstand a tsunami. 

Throughout the week, students will complete different steps of the engineering process to plan, design, create, test, and improve their ideas.   

Specific assignment details can be found in MS Teams and the Class OneNote.

This week, we will study how the movement of Earth’s crust (known as tectonic plates) causes earthquakes.

Throughout the week, students will see how earthquakes are caused and how scientists predict and measure seismic activity.

This week, we will study the movement of Earth’s crust (known as tectonic plates).

Throughout the week, students should compare oceanic crust to continental crust, learn some background to the theory of plate tectonics, and study types of interactions along the boundaries of tectonic plates.

Weekly Update - Aug. 17-21

Unit 1 – Earth Science

Topic 1 – Earth’s Structure

We will begin this topic with a review of Earth’s layers. Next, we will study the movement of Earth’s crust (known as tectonic plates).

By the end of this week, students should complete the Inside Earth readings and Earth Layers Diagram.  These are pages in the Class OneNote, and are also accessible through the Assignments section of MS Teams for Science 6 Cundari.  Once those are done, take the quiz!  This is a Microsoft Form that is accessible through the Assignments tab in Teams.
