7th Grade Enrichment Opportunities

PLUS Club will be offered on Wednesdays from 4-5pm. This club is for 5th-12th graders and will help students see how diversity in a community can add value and positive change that benefit everyone. Because of the variety in people's abilities, identities, cultures, and beliefs communities can learn to strive and survive together by celebrating all of who we are and sharing our true selves with others. Email [email protected] and [email protected] for the Zoom information.

Social Zoom Hour on Friday

Now that we are back in distance learning the need for connection and community is of great importance. Katie Goforth and Julie Ruhl will be hosting grade level Social Zooms for all students throughout the day every Friday. Social Zooms are intended to be an unstructured space for kids to connect. Ms. Katie and Mrs. Ruhl are hosting the Zoom, but the purpose of the Social Zoom is to allow students to connect organically. They will ensure the Zoom remains school appropriate, safe and comfortable for all students!

  • There is a social zoom in the morning and one in the afternoon to accommodate different family needs.
  • In Seventh Grade, the Social Zooms will be from 10:30-11:00am and 2:15-2:45pm.
  • Here is the AM [10:30 am] Link: https://zoom.us/j/99075578967?pwd=RWtscDY4ZGtxc3NRcGpYTzlBVWkyQT09
  • Here is the PM [2:15 pm] Link: https://zoom.us/j/98861376899?pwd=SmF6ZlprMlUwQSs2aEhSNkZMUmhXQT09
  • Passwords for each meeting are posted in your student’s Teams.
  • Social Zooms are completely optional! You can join none, one, or both!
  • Ms. Katie and Mrs. Ruhl will be monitoring the Zoom to maintain school expectations. If there are concerns during the Zoom, they will provide warnings and redirect behavior, but if the behavior continues, the student may be removed from the Zoom.
  • If you have any questions, please email [email protected] - we hope to see your student Friday!

Picture Days Next Week

PICTURE DAY(S)

Picture days will be Wednesday, October 28, and Thursday, October 29. These days are for students and staff who did not get their picture taken in September, and for students who would like retakes. *Retakes will only be given if the student brings the original photo package back to the photographer.* In general, we will be photographing in-person learners on Wednesday (because that is not costume day!) and online learners on Thursday. Online learners need to contact me for a time slot for Thursday. A staff member will be coming to the classrooms on Wednesday with the list of those students who did not already get the picture taken.

Westgate Community School Presents: The Upstanders!

Topic: Westgate Community School Presents The Upstanders!
Description: The Upstanders is a film-based education program about resilience, attention, and the power of connection to end bullying. The film explores cyber-bullying, bullying among friends, families, co-workers and the brain science behind it all. We will be showing the film at [TIME], which will promptly be followed by a panel discussion. Since Westgate was lucky enough to be a part of the filming for The Upstanders, you will see some of your very own Westgate staff members on the panel and in the film! The panel will also include access to further resources and materials.

High School Presentation

Hello 7th and 8th Grade Families,

It has been great to have students back in the building!  Can you believe it is already time for our 8th graders to start thinking about high school! Well, it is. To support our families, I will be hosting an informational presentation about the Westgate High School program as well as all Adams 12 HS options specifically designed for current Westgate Students and Families on Thursday, October 22 at 6:00 PM.  Westgate does have a separate application process for our high school program.  Please join me as we begin this process together. There will be time for questions after the presentation.

Please email communications@westgateschool to request the direct Zoom link if you need it resent to you

Students have a new class this quarter. It is a writing class. A classroom page as well as a Microsoft Team will be set up for next week. Here is this week's week at a glance (October 14th-16th) for the writing class. Online students, make sure you watch the video on Thursday (found in the advocacy team video tab) to understand this class.
