Welcome back Winter :)
 
This week we will be focusing on the production of our class fable book. 
Please remind your students to complete the weekly reading and summaries.  The only way to become a strong reader is to read.  

October book orders

October book orders are due on on Wednesday 10/23,  I would like to have them in so I can submit the final order.  Thank you.  The class code is VYGJF if you would like to submit your order online.
 

Welcome Back

I hope all of you had a Wonderful Fall Break and are ready to get back into the school groove.

This week we will looking at Poetry in Reading and working with these Learning Goals;
• I can effectively engage in a range of
collaborative discussions. (SL.4.1)
• I can refer to details and examples in a text
when explaining what the text says explicitly
and when drawing inferences from the text.
(RL.4.1)
• I can summarize the text, based on details
from the story. (RL.4.2)
• I can describe in depth a character in a
story, drawing on specific details in the text.
(RL.4.3)   
In Writing we will draft some original poetry in order to introduce Author Purpose: PIEES  Persuade Inform Entertain Express Summarize   
and also work on completing the Fables for our Words of Wisdom class book project (More details to come about the publishing)          

September 23-25

Conferences are this Thursday and Friday. We look forward to seeing all of you here.
First day of Fall, feels like the year is going by so quickly.
Hopefully your students brought you the information on the school play coming up right after Fall break.  The production company will be assisting the students of Westgate with the performance of "Pinocchio."  During this shortened week during literacy we will be looking at the original works of C Collodi.  Hopefully this will spark an interest.   

Week of September 16th-20th

This week, students will be learning to use text features of informational text in order to understand the main idea. In Writing, they will write a piece on "How to" Writing to instruct someone in completing a simple task, ie.. make a piece of toast

Week of September 9th - 13th

I can explain what a text says using specific details from the text. (RI.4.1)
I can make inferences using specific details from the text. (RI.4.1)
I can determine the main idea using specific details from the text. (RI.4.2)
I can take notes and categorize information. (W.4.8)
 
On 9/11 we will be looking at Primary text from the Heroes from that day and writing about the reason we recognize 9/11 as Patriots day
