Week 2/11 - 2/14

Last Week: We learned how to calculate the lengths of a secant and a tangent when they intersect a circle from the same external point. We also practiced for the SAT.

This Week: We will learn to find the lengths of two secants when they intersect a circle and start at the same external point.

Due by the end of the week: Practice with Tangents and Secants sheet

Week 02/04 - 02/08

Last week: We reviewed problems with arcs and sectors. We also learned how to find the intersections points of nonlinear equations.

This week: We will continue practicing with systems of nonlinear equations. We will also learn to tell the lengths of tangents and secants when they meet at a point outside of a circle.

Due by the end of the week: Arc review sheet, Nonlinear Equations sheet

Week 01/28 - 02/01

Last week: We learned how to find arc length of a circle when given a radius and a central angle.

This week: We will be reviewing arcs and taking a quiz, then moving onto the Secant and Tangent Theorems.

Due by the end of the week: Arc naming worksheet, Sector length and area worksheet

Week 01/22 - 01/25

Last week, we began learning about circles. We learned several new terms for working with circles and also used two new theorems to solve for tangent lengths.

This week, we will learn about arcs in circles and how we can use them to solve for distances and areas.

Due by the end of the week: Tangents and Circles worksheets 1-3

Week 12/10 - 12/14

This week in geometry, students practiced finding parabola zeros using the quadratic equation and began reviewing for the final. We will review more on Monday next week, then this class will have their final on Tuesday, December 18 from 8:00 - 10:00.

Finals Week!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Can you believe we are one week away from the end of the first semester? This year, we have been working diligently to provide a high quality and rigorous academic program for our high school students. After experimenting with many different opportunities during these post-FRCC weeks, we made the decision this year to implement Final Exams. We believe Final Exams are an important way for students to demonstrate knowledge in a content area, and we hope that students maintain a high level of focus all the way to the finish line.

Monday, December 17th is a full day for all 9th-11th grade students (and 12th grade students who have Westgate classes). Finals will take place on Tuesday, December 18th and Wednesday, December 19th. Your student only needs to attend school during his or her final. Yes, you read that right! If your student only has one final on Tuesday, they only need to come to school during that one final! If your student needs to stay at school, we have supervised study rooms available all day. Thursday, December 20th is a half day for all students. Students needs to attend school on Thursday, December 20th from 8:00am-11:30am.

Please see the Final Schedule below and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Week 12/3 - 12/7

In Geometry, we practiced using properties of exponents and learned to factor using complex polynomials. This coming week, we will use the quadratic formula to factor problems that can't be short-cutted, and we will begin preparing for the final exam.

Week 11/26 - 11/30

In Geometry this week, we reviewed and tested over parabolas. We also took a day to review using properties of exponents in equations.

Next week, we will continue our review of exponents and begin using skills from our parabola unit (like factoring) in larger, more complex equations.

Week 11/12 - 11/16

This week in Geometry, we practiced examining how parabolas would move under certain conditions. We also took time to review circumcenters, as they will return on the final at the end of the semester.

Next week, we will return to factoring, using more complex polynomials. We will also use factoring to solve equations rather than just finding zeros of parabolas.

Week 11/05 - 11/09

In Geometry this week, we took a quiz over factoring and vertex form. We also began learning to graph parabolas.

This coming week, we will apply our knowledge of vertex form to begin moving parabolas, seeing how they change as we change different variables. We will also take time to review circumcenters from first quarter.

Week 10/29 - 11/02

In Geometry, we learned about vertex form while for writing parabolic expressions. We also practiced converting equations from standard form to vertex form.

Week 10/22 - 10/26

This week, we practiced factoring parabolic functions, changing them from standard form to intercept form when "a" is not equal to 0.

Week 10/15 - 10/19

This week, Geometry students learned to factor quadratic problems, changing them from standard form to intercept form.

Week 9/17 - 9/21

In Geometry, we practiced finding the shortest distance from a point to a line and began working with binomials.
