Super Kids 11/26/18

Hello Parents,
This week we are continuing to learn about non-fiction text features including heading, labels, and table of contents. We will regain our reading stamina after break by reviewing our reading strategies.
Our spelling words for the week focus on the /ng/ sound. Please practice reading, spelling, and writing the spelling words below:
king, sing, thing, hang, bang, sang, long, song, hung sung.
Our sight words for the week are:
do, have, a, show, me
In writing we are continuing to focus on writing to teach others about the world. Students will practice strategies to organize their facts, consider their audience, and add details to their writing.

Super Kids 11/5/18

Hello Parents,
This week we are continuing to work on decoding strategies to solve tricky words. We will continue weekly spelling assessment next week as I will be at a training out of town this Thursday and Friday. Last week students and I completed their reading assessments and I look forward to using their reading level data to create strategy groups, set goals with students, and reflect on progress in the coming weeks.
Min writing we will begin researching and documenting facts from non-fiction books. This is the first step in working through the writing process to create our own non-fiction books.
Have a great week!

Super Kids - Question Words 10/29 - 11/2

This week students are focusing on building fluency using decoding strategies like chunking sounds in large words and re-reading familiar text over and over again.
Students are also working on reading and writing question words and noticing question marks. This supports our transition from writing personal narratives to writing non-fiction pieces!
Strategies to support your student at home:
Look for the weekly reader post!
I will be sharing weekly readers for you and your student to read together at home. Tips and directions are located on the pages. Have fun and enjoy reading with your student!

SuperKids Login Support

Remember, that you can log into Superkids for your child, and enjoy some fun games and activities at home! Some families were having a little trouble with that, so I am attaching instructions to help you get started!

Unit #2

This week we will review routines and procedures, rebuild our stamina following the break, and review our sight words and digraphs from Unit 1. Then we will move forward with Unit 2. Writing will move from personal narratives to informative writing. Students will continue focusing on sentence structure and spelling sight words correctly.

Unit #1 Continued

Hello Parents,
This week we are continuing unit one which focuses on decoding words with the ch, tch, and sh digraphs. Students are becoming more familiar with spelling lists and practice spelling tests. We have also started building our sight word bank. Look for sight word lists to come home in Friday Folders. Remember that sight words are words that students should memorize and know with speed and accuracy. These are not typically easily decoded words so creating flash cards, daily drills, rainbow writing, or sight word memory games are just a few ideas to support your student at home.
Students are doing an amazing job building their stamina and are now reading to themselves or buddy reading for 18 minutes. I am so proud of the progress we have made in such a short time!
