Course Description

In Advocacy students work on social-emotional skills. We have time to greet one another, do the classroom jobs, read stories, and discuss social-emotional situations. The curriculum we use is called Generation Schools Network. Each month advocacy classes will work on different themes ranging from bullying prevention to growth mindset.

Hello September!

Here is what you can expect for this month.

In Advocacy we will be working on our monthly theme of Self-Awareness. This is a time for us to talk about teamwork and collaboration, goal setting, being kind to ourselves, peer pressure and self-esteem. The second to last week of September (17th-21th) will be our College and Career Readiness week where we will be talking about jobs! If you would like to come in and share about your job, or a job you have had, let us know! Be on the lookout for the sign up. We will be posting it next week. We have slots available from 8-8:20am. If you really can’t make it, or we cant schedule you, we will have another career week in March.

Parents! THIS Thursday, September 6th, Amanda Novak and Generation Schools Network are hosting a Parent & Student Focus Group about topics such as bullying, social emotional learning, and more. Original Works Fundraiser!

Original Works

It is time once again for our Original Works Fundraiser! Students in K–8th grade will have the chance to create their own artwork in the classroom, and parents will have the opportunity to buy magnets, mugs, notecards and many other items imprinted with their child's artwork. These make wonderful gifts for grandparents and other loved ones. This is the 3rd largest fundraiser for Westgate and brought in around $1,000 for our school last year!

Keep a look out in Friday folders this week and next week for a large yellow envelope from Original Works containing your child's artwork and an order form.Orders and payment should be returned to Westgate by September 21st. Checks should be made out to Westgate Community School.
