Weekly Update - September 9

This week students will start by going over their math tests and looking for opportunities to learn from the problems they got right and those that they didn't.
After this review, we will begin our new unit on exponents, roots and square roots. Students will also be introduced to the Pythagorean Theorem.

Weekly Update - September 3

  • This week, students will finish their work with integers by working on multiplication and division.
  • There will be an assessment on Integers Thursday.
  • On Friday, students will begin their unit on exponents and roots.

Weekly Update - August 26

After spending the week focusing on adding and subtracting positive and negative integers, we will spend this week focusing on multiplication and division.
  • First we will look at the rules that guide us when multiplying and dividing two integers when both have the same sign and when the signs are different.
  • Students will continue to work on solving story problems and using the information in these problems to write and solve mathematical equations.

Weekly Update - August 20

Welcome to Week Two of Math!
  • Last week students took a pre-assessment on integers and we will be going over that Monday.
  • Students will be learning the academic vocabulary for the unit.
  • Students will be working on Integer Word Problems where they are to create an equation from the word problem and solve. They also have to create a visual representation of the equation and for two problems they need to write out the steps listing what they are thinking and what they are doing.

This year we will be covering 8 grade Colorado State Math Standards.

Our focus this year will be using the Workshop Model for teaching and learning math.

Unit 1: Integers
  • Pre-Assessment on Integers
  • Explore positive and negative numbers.
  • Operations with positive and negative numbers.
  • Word problems with positive and negative numbers.
  • Writing in math

Students were each given a planner to use this year to aid in time management and organization.  Each day, they should be copying down the agenda for each class.  This is a great tool to see what's happening daily.  Please encourage your student to maintain this by checking in with them regularly.  Students are also encouraged to track upcoming due dates in their planners.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can email me at [email protected]. I will return your email within 48 hours or two business days.
