Hello Westgate Families, 
This week in literacy they are focusing on using a variety of sentences in their writing. We will specifically practice the structure of a compound sentence. They will be demonstrating their understanding through writing of folktales and comprehension questions. We will continue small groups that are now either reading "The BFG" or "James and the Giant Peach". 
 
Our spelling rule for this week is the long e sound. A reminder that the goal of these spelling words is to understand the rule of the spelling to help them in the future with more difficult words.

Hello Westgate Families! 
This week in literacy they will be doing a winter writing prompt, reading poetry out loud (the focus being the structure of poetry and the rhythm), and reviewing all of our previous spelling words from this quarter. There will not be a formal spelling test this week. Instead they will be spending some time everyday looking back at our previous rules and words. We will also do some festive Valentines Day activities!

This week in literacy we are focusing on figurative language and different types of poetry. They will be annotating and writing free verse poetry and lyrical poetry, as well as completing a figurative language hunt in their chapter books. At the end of class we are now taking some time to work in their cursive workbooks!
