Literacy - Break Practice
Unit 4 Week 2
Dear Families,
I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving break. Don’t forget to keep reading this week, kids become better at reading by reading. Aim for 20 minutes each day. This can be broken up through the day, can be books, magazines, words you see around town, etc.
Encourage your students to write during the break as well. This is a great time to write a letter to family or to write gratitude notes for people they will be seeing during the holiday. Other ways to incorporate writing is to have them help you make grocery lists, make signs or posters around the house, or writing a story together as a family.
When we return from break we will be working on lessons 6 through 10 in unit 4. Students will be working on writing about facts and using research to answer questions. In spelling we will focus on ar, or, and ear words. We will also be working on adding the endings -er and -est.

Unit 4 Week 1
Hello Families,
This week we will begin working on unit 4 in the superkids curriculum. The first 5 lessons of the unit are going to be focused on reading and spelling words with r controlled vowels. We will also be working on adding the ending er to words. In writing we will focus on asking questions and taking notes. We will be looking at facts in our reading and how to tell fact from opinion.
Spelling city is available. You will need to go in and find the current spelling list since I will not be creating assignments. The list for this week is called unit 4 list 1 and is under the superkids section of lists.
Don’t forget to take advantage of the parent portal. There are games for the kids and you can access past materials from there.
As always, let me know if you have any questions or notice something needs to be fixed in the online programs we use.
Thanks!

Hello Families,
This week in literacy we will be working on adding endings to words. We will focus on -ing, -ed, and -es. We will be looking at adjectives and adding more description to our writing. Students will be continuing to work on their opinion paragraphs. We will use these to create a class book that will be published. Families will have an opportunity to purchase books through the publishing company. Look for information on this in Friday folders.
We are up and going on spelling city now. Students will have the word lists assigned for the current week as well as being able to go into the lists and work on past lists. I have only assigned 3 tasks so that students can play any of the games they would like. You will find a log in page in Friday folders. Please let me know if you are having any trouble logging in.

Dear Families,
This week we will be starting Unit 3 of the Superkids program. In the first 5 lesson of the unit students will focus on decoding words with the sounds /s/ and /z/. We will work on plurals with the -s and -es endings. We will begin looking at the syllables in a word to help with reading longer words.
In writing we will be focusing on writing an opinion piece. We will discuss the difference between facts an opinion and begin planning to write an opinion paragraph.
You can access resources on the Superkids website and spelling city will be up this week. If you have any questions please email me, I am happy to help support student literacy at home.
