Week of 1/14/19

I will be introducing Pop Art to the students and they will be choosing a cartoon character to draw with a pop art style background.

Week of 12/10

The students are learning about positive and negative space and creating a snowy skyline using positive and negative space.

Week of 12/3

The students are learning about symmetry and creating a mixed media drawing of a symmetrical snowflake using Elmer's glue and oil pastels.
Then the students are creating an op art painting using patterns, lines and color.

Week of 11/26

This week, the students will be introduced to the basics of Perspective, they will work on a perspective drawing of a winter farm field. This drawing will show snowmen and sleds in perspective and create the illusion of 3D.

Week of 11/13

I am going over rules and expectations for the classroom and then the students  are doing a round robin drawing exercise.
The students are then adding to our collaborative mural, in which all of the art classes participated in. Every student is given a cube template and they are to design their "cube" to represent themselves. Each cube is then going to be posted on the hallway together to create the mural.
 

Week of 11/5

The students finished their own Kandinsky-inspired artwork using crayons and watercolor.
 
Then the students created an op art drawing using patterns, lines and color.

Week of 10/29

The students learned about the history of Mandalas and how they relate to art and design. They created their own symmetrical Mandala using oil pastels.

They then learned about Wassily Kandinsky and his style of abstract art. Using their learned knowledge of his work the students started their own Kandinsky-inspired artwork using crayons and watercolor.

Week of 10/22

This week I taught the students about logo and package design and what goes into making a great design for a product. They then used this knowledge to create their own candy design by choosing their ingredients and creating a logo and package.
 
I then taught the students about perspective by explaining the history of it in art. We then created a perspective drawing of a Fall landscape using vanishing points, converging lines and horizon lines.

Week 4

This week the students were introduced to chalk pastels and oil pastels. They experimented with both mediums on their own to be more comfortable with them. We then started a project to create a batik look using glue and oil pastels on black paper.

Week 3

The students created more Seahorses,Sharks and Fish to later be attached to the background of the mural.
At the end of the week the students created the murals on blue paper and added colorful crabs, shells and coral.

Week 2

This week, after introducing the students to the basics of Perspective, they completed a perspective drawing of a landscape. They used vanishing points and a horizon line to create the illusion that the drawing was 3D.
After this was completed. I taught the students what murals are and why they are used in different environments. They then started the Aquarium mural in which they were to mosaic Seahorses,Sharks and Fish to later be attached to the background of the mural.
