9/25/17

This is our last week of Literacy for quarter one! We will be doing a lot of fun writing activities that will not be going in the grade book. Also, we will be meeting with our Kindergarten buddies on Tuesday since we have the Trash Pick Up on Wednesday. We have worked really hard to create fun activities for our Kindergarten buddies and look forward to get to share with them.

9/18/17

This week in language arts, we will be wrapping up the quarter. Parent teacher conferences are just around the corner and the end of this quarter is coming up quickly. If your child is missing any work, it needs to be completed by Thursday, September 21st. Grades are due September 22nd. Students cannot make up work after this Friday.

9/11/17

This week we will finish our essay about rights and freedoms and we are going to start reading Esperanza Rising. Essay rough drafts are due by 9/12. Students will not be required to make these into final drafts at this time since we do not have computers to type them. However, I will be reading through each one and making editing suggestions.

9/5/17

We are writing an Essay this week.  We are using the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to defend our answer to, "Does everyone deserve the same rights and freedoms?" This is a five paragraph essay.

8/28/17

This week in Language Arts we will continue to read to learn. We are currently building background knowledge about human rights.

8/21/17

This is our first week of language arts. Due to the solar eclipse, on Monday we will spend some time setting up our class and doing some get to know you activities. After that, we will be starting directly into curriculum.

As this is an advanced class, our focus is going to be reading for Detail and reading to learn. We will also focus on becoming better writers, as this is the area that most students struggle with. This class will be a heavy writing class to prepare students for the next level of learning.

This week we are going to read and discus the Universal Deceleration of Human Rights. Students will be participating in discussion and writing in regards to unalienable rights and what it means to them. We will also be introduced to our book: Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan.

As always, please email me if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to talk about what we are doing in class.
