Fall Curriculum

• Project 1: Zentangle Landscape
  • In this project, students create landscape drawings using Zentangle-inspired patterns, focusing on line, color, and texture to define different parts of the environment. Students use repeated patterns and varied line qualities to transform trees, mountains, water, buildings, and other landscape elements into detailed expressive designs.
  • This project aligns with Art Standards, including:
    • VA: Cr1.1.4: Brainstorm multiple approaches to a creative art-making problem
    • VA: Cr1.2.4: Explore and demonstrate control of materials, tools, and techniques
    • VA: Cr2.2.4: Analyze components in visual imagery that convey messages.
  • Through this project, students develop patience, attention to detail, and creative problem-solving while discovering how line, pattern, and color can transform a familiar landscape into a unique work of art
• Project 2: ½ and ½ Self Portraits
  • In this project, students create a unique self-portrait by combining a photograph with a hand-drawn rendering of half of their face. Using tones, value, and shading techniques, students carefully observe facial features and explore how light and shadow define form and create dimension.
  • This project aligns with Art Standards, including:
    • VA: Cr2.1.4: Explore and invent art-making techniques and approaches
    • VA: Cr3.1.4: Revise artwork in progress based on insights gained through peer discussion
  • Through this project, students strengthen their observational drawing and shading skills while learning how value, light, and proportion can create a realistic representation of the human face.
