Hi Families!

I can't believe week 2 is complete! In my post last week, I said that edlio posts would be weekly. However, standards and expectations have shifted for staff, and I will now be posting one longer update at the start of each new math unit/ reading module. In these posts you will see what students will be learning along with some family conversation starters around the subject. Thank you for engaging! Please email me with any questions.

* Miss V sent out an email yesterday regarding Outdoor Ed! If you have NOT filled out the permission slip yet, please do asap. Even if your child is NOT attending, you need to fill it out to let us know. Thank you for understanding.

First week back!

Hello! Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! This is the advocacy edlio page for O'Leary. This space will be important reminders for the pod and a monthly update about what we are focusing on during advocacy. This post will likely be a longer one and then the others should be relatively short.

Here is a message from Charlie Kahn our environmental education specialist.

Dear Families,

Starting next week, our pod will be participating in a new school program called Nourish in Nature. As part of this environmental education initiative, students will enjoy lunch outdoors during their regular lunch block.

5th/6th Grade: Wednesdays

To help students make the most of this experience, we ask that, if possible, lunches brought from home do not require microwaving only on Wednesdays. This allows students to spend the entire lunch period outside, increases their daily time in nature, and gives our pod the opportunity to eat all together.

Students who receive a school lunch will have their meals brought outside and served as usual. At the end of lunch, students will clean up their eating area and return indoors to resume classes.

Fidget rules/ expectations for the 5/6 pod

- Must fit in a palm

- Cannot make noise

- Student should not be distracted by it at any point during use

- A fidget is a tool to stay focused, not a toy. If it is being used as a toy the student can collect it from the teachers desk at the end of the day.

If your student is unsure they can always bring it to a teacher at the start of the day to check. Thank you for your partnership with this!

Month one focus:

We will be discussing the R in RISE. Our focus will be on Respect of people, places and things. I hope these are meaningful lessons for your students that are applicable outside of school as well.
