Fall Semester Curriculum:

  • Project 1: Georgia O’Keeffe Flowers
    • Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s bold, close-up flower paintings, students use chalk pastels to create vibrant floral artwork that emphasizes color blending, shading, and scale. By zooming in on natural forms, students explore the beauty of detail and develop a strong sense of composition.
    • This project aligns with Art Standards, including:
      • VA: Cr2.1.3 – Create personally meaningful artwork using a variety of materials.
      • VA: Cr2.1.4 – Explore and demonstrate control of materials, tools, and techniques.
      • VA: Re7.2.4 – Analyze components in visual imagery that convey messages.
    • Through this pastel project, students connect with nature, learn expressive techniques, and celebrate color in a style inspired by one of America’s most iconic artists.
  • Project 2: Print Making Self Portrait
    • In this project, students create expressive self-portraits using a simple printmaking technique. They draw on foam sheets to create printing plates, then apply markers and transfer their images onto paper. This process introduces the basics of printmaking, mirror images, and personal expression through art.
    • This project aligns with Art Standards, including:
      • VA: Cr1.1.3 – Elaborate on an idea in art using imagination or familiar sources.
      • VA: Cr2.1.4 – Explore and demonstrate control of tools and materials to express ideas.
      • VA: Cn10.1.4 – Create works of art that reflect community or personal identity.
    • Through this hands-on experience, students gain confidence in portraiture and printmaking while exploring what makes them unique.
