Science Update

Westgate Families,
Be sure to look at IC to see how your student is doing in their academic classes.  We are a few weeks into quarter 2 and there is time to improve grades if necessary.

Students should be sending emails home on Fridays indicating what missing work they have.  I encourage you to follow up and look at IC to see how you can support them through the remainder of the quarter.

Students are finishing up Unit 2: Reproduction, Heredity and Growth.  Students will review and take a unit test this week.

Warm regards,
Mrs. Haupt

Science Update

Westgate Families,
7th grade students finished the lesson on plant reprocution and took the quiz on Friday along with completing an infographic poster on Flower Reproduction.  We will be moving into the HMH lesson on animal reproduction.
Look for the Advocacy post for November for additional information this month.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Haupt

Science Update

Westgate Families:
Seventh grade students are continuing to moving through the cell unit this week.  We've completed Lesson 1 and 2 and started lesson 3 this week.  Students will be connecting their knowledge of cells, tissue, and organ systems of plants to that of animals.  We will be looking at body systems throughout this week and will conduct a hands-on lab.

The end of the quarter is approaching quickly.  Please keep an eye on IC.  Students have had several opportunities to make up missing/incomplete work.  It is imperative to their grade that assignments are complete and on time to avoid a late deduction (10% each day late).  Students may update an assignment grade up to 1 week after the assignment is graded.  Students are still acclimating to the new grading system and are learning quickly that missing work is reflective in their grade.

I appreciate any home support to help your student succeed this year.

Do not hesitate to email me with any questions.
Mrs. Haupt

Science Update

Students are conituing to learn about cells.  We are currently covering plant and animal cells, cell theory, and cell systems. We recently took an assessment and one thing I'm noticing across the board on short answer responses is often students are not answering all parts of the question.  We will continue to work on this skill and provide opportunity to practice.

Heads up, individual student pictures will be taken on September 5.

Warm regards,
Mrs. Haupt

Science Happenings

Hi Westgate Families,
Seventh grade students are making their way through the first unit of HMH.  We are exploring cells, their structures, and types.  This is our first year using HMH science.  It's exciting to navigate this curriculum.  What I have found so far is that it lends to students having great discussions about phenomenon and also gives students opportunities to inquire and test the world around them.

Science Information

Dear Westgate Families,

Welcome to the start of a brand new school year! I’m excited to begin another year of learning, growth, and exploration with our students. We have some exciting updates to share as we kick off the year.

This year, we are implementing a brand new HMH Science curriculum. This program brings engaging, hands-on learning experiences designed to deepen student understanding and curiosity in science.

Here’s a quick overview of what your child will be learning in quarter 1 science this year:

  • 8th Grade: Our focus will be on energy – how it's transformed, transferred, and used in various systems.

  • 7th Grade: We’ll dive into the world of cells, exploring their structure, function, and importance in living organisms.

Please be on the lookout for an advocacy post coming soon, which will provide additional information about our team and upcoming events.

As always, communication is key! If you have any questions or need to get in touch, email is the fastest way to reach me. I’m looking forward to partnering with you to make this a successful year for your student.

Warm regards,
Marcella Haupt
