Ms. O'Leary, Science, 5th

Posts

Science this week we explored, air resistance, momentum and friction! Students used hot wheels and made different textured ramps to help them understand friction and speed.

Next week we will switch gears just a bit and make safety pamphlets for a chosen natural disaster. It will catch us up in writing just a bit and be a fun project for them before break!

9/5 update

Hi Parents!
This week in science we worked on completing our final project for matter.
They created comics and I cannot wait to hang them up for all to see!

Next week we will start learning about forces in motion. I am so excited for this unit because it can be so hands on!

week 4

This week in science we discovered and discussed that the particles that make up matter are too small to be seen and we looked at a few different ways we can see evidence of this.

We started our first final project which is creating a comic to creatively show their thinking on our unit! The hope is to finish that up next week and move onto the forces in motion unit :)

week 3

Parents! First of all, I am so sorry. I have been posting weekly to my pages but turns out I had incorrectly added your emails and very few of you were actually getting my updates. Mistakes happen but I am so sorry for whatever the lack of communication made you feel.

I will likely re post the previous posts sometime next week so you can at least read them. I apologize in advance for the influx of emails from me.

In science this week we began understanding (or reviewing for some) what the three states of matter are! We made Oobleck to see a non Newtonian substance. This was helpful for most people to see how the states of matter can change. Next week we will look at different properties of matter. We have a huge focus right now on making detailed and descriptive observations.

What's the matter? New unit!

In science this week we continued to work on the scientific method! We are slowly starting our what's the matter unit all about matter and it's properties. I am so excited for this unit!

Next week students will be making Oobleck and starting to understand matter in more depth.

Welcome back!
In science this week we went over what science means to all of us, safety contracts and have started learning about the scientific method! We will practice this a few more times before moving onto our first unit "what's the MATTER?"

I know many of your students love science and I cannot wait to hopefully continue the love of science!

Thanks again! Please reach out with any questions.
