This week in Literacy, we are beginning an exciting new unit called Stories on Stage! Students will be introduced to the world of scripts and plays as we learn how written stories can come to life through performance. We’ll explore literary elements such as characters, setting, and dialogue to better understand how authors create engaging and expressive stories.
To build these skills, students will participate in a few Reader’s Theater activities where they will read short plays with their classmates. This will help improve their reading fluency, expression, and confidence in front of an audience. Alongside this, we are beginning our literacy stations, where students will rotate through different activities to strengthen specific skills.
During station time, students will practice vocabulary and spelling patterns focusing on consonant digraphs (ch, tch, th, wh, ng, ph), spend time in independent reading, and continue building their keyboarding skills. We use an online program called Typing Club to help students learn proper finger placement and typing accuracy. You can encourage your child to practice Typing Club at home to reinforce these skills!
