Hamilton's Science Update 5-26-26

We made it!  It’s hard to believe we are in the final week of this year.  Students will be finalizing all of their projects for the Open House.  I hope you will all be able to attend and allow your student to present all that they have learned this year!

Thank you for a great year!

Hamilton's Science Update 5-18-26

This week, our class will continue learning as we explore pollination and the important role bees, insects, and butterflies play in our world! Students will learn how pollination helps plants grow, discover why bees and other insects are essential to nature, and study the fascinating butterfly life cycle—from egg to caterpillar, chrysalis, and finally, butterfly. Through hands-on activities and discussions, we’ll build a deeper understanding of how these amazing creatures help our environment thrive.

Hello families,

This week in science, our first graders will continue learning about plants their plant parts, and the characteristics of plants and a plant's lifecycle.  We have also planted our bean sprouts.  Students will be keeping a journal of the changes they see in their plant and identifying the different parts of the plant throughout the process.

Hamilton's Science Update 3-30-26

Hello families,

This week in science, our first graders are learning about living and nonliving things, as well as exploring the four seasons and how they change throughout the year.

As we continue our science unit, students will begin learning about plants and animals, including their needs and characteristics. We will also explore life cycles, such as the butterfly life cycle, and observe how living things grow and change over time.

We’re excited for all the hands-on learning ahead!

Hamilton's Science Update 11-11-25

This week, we are wrapping up our exciting unit in science focused on the Solar System! Understanding our place in space is foundational, and we will begin by observing and analyzing patterns right here on Earth. Specifically, we will be looking at patterns in the sky and how they change over time.

A hands-on part of this learning will involve observing how our shadow moves throughout the day. This simple yet powerful activity helps students visualize the apparent movement of the sun and lays the groundwork for understanding the rotation of the Earth. Please encourage your student to talk about any changes they notice in the sky or with their own shadow when they are outside.

Hamilton's Science Update 10-27-25

This week, we will be exploring the exciting topics of the Moon, its phases, and the wonders of space and the planets! The children will learn about how the Moon changes shape throughout the month, and we’ll dive into fun facts about our solar system.

Just like last week, we’ll be doing a hands-on experiment to help bring these concepts to life. The students had a blast learning in such a meaningful way, and we can’t wait for them to experience more exciting activities this week!
We’re looking forward to an out-of-this-world week of learning!

Hamilton's Science Update 9-8-25

In Science, we will be learning about sound and vibration. This is an important topic because sound is part of our everyday lives, and students will explore how sounds are made and how they travel.

At the end of this week, we will also have our unit test on light and sound to review everything we’ve learned so far.

Thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home!

Hamilton's Science Update 9-2-25

In Science, we will continue our unit on Light! Students will be learning about different types of light, including natural light (like the sun) and artificial light (like lamps and flashlights). We will also explore how light interacts with objects, focusing on transparent, translucent, and opaque materials.

This unit will help students observe the world around them in new ways and make real-life connections to how light is part of our daily lives.

Thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home!
