10/28-11/1

We are continuing to work with double-digit multiplication. Students will continue to review the standard/star method, but will also learn how to use an area model and the lattice method.

Please continue to review 1-10 times tables at home.

10/21-10/25

This week we are working on estimating the sums of multi-digit multiplication problems. Students will round to the nearest tens place and use compatible rounding (to the nearest 5s place). We will also learn how to use an area model and the lattice method to multiply two-digit numbers.

Please review place value and times tables at home.

10/14-10/18

This week we are continuing to work on how to multiply by one-digit numbers. Students will also learn how to use the Stand Algorithm (or the star method) to multiply multi-digit numbers.

Vocabulary: product, partial product, regroup, standard algorithm, place value

9/23-9/26

We will continue to work on understanding how to multiply by one-digit numbers. Students will be working on: writing multiplication and addition comparison sentences, finding the product of two numbers, rounding to estimate a product, and writing multiplication problems.

9/16-9/20

We will take a test on Monday (and Tuesday if needed) on adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers and using estimation to find the sums and differences of problems.

Then, we will transition to our unit on understanding how to multiply by one-digit numbers. Students will be working on: finding the product of two numbers, rounding to estimate a product, and writing multiplication problems.

9/9-9/13

We are continuing to add and subtract multi-digit numbers and learn about different ways to check our work. We will be focusing mainly on using estimation to check our work.

Math concepts to review for this chapter: adding, subtracting, place value, estimation

9/2-9/6

Students are reviewing rounding and comparision with place value. Then, we will continue our transition into adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers. We will learn multiple strategies including ways to check our work.

Math concepts to review for this chapter: adding, subtracting, place value, estimation

8/26-8/30

We are finishing up our unit on place value. Students will review and have a test on Tuesday. Then, we will start the next unit on adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers. We will learn multiple strategies including ways to check our work.

Math concepts to review for this chapter: adding, subtracting, place value, estimation

8/19-23

This week we are continuing our unit on place value. We will wrap up our lessons on writing numbers in standard form, expanded form, and word form. Then, we will transition to comparing mutli-digit numbers.

The vocabulary words associated with this chapter are: period, ones period, thousands period, and place value chart.

8/12-8/16

For the next few weeks your student will be learning place value concepts. The lessons address how to identify the values of the digits in multi-digit numbers, read and write multi-digit numbers in different forms, and use place value to compare and round multi-digit numbers. The vocabulary words associated with this chapter are: period, ones period, thousands period, and place value chart.
