I hope this message finds you well.

This week in Language Arts students will finish their Poe Research Project (assignment details can be found in teams) before presenting in small groups. ELA 7 Quarter 4 (Spring Break)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Over the past two weeks we have dived into our poetry unit. Students have been working hard on notes and creating a class poem. In 8th grade, students have completed reading multiple reading analysis of various forms of poetry. When we return from break, we will finish our poetry unit and look at various plays and sonnets from Shakespeare.

The gradebook is up to date. If students have missing work, they need to complete the following assignments prior to returning from Spring Break:

  • The Charge of the Light Brigade
  • The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
  • Shakespeare Webquest

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Wishing you a wonderful break.

Sincerely,

Chris Garlock

Week 5&6 CMAS Review 2

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Last week in ELA, students completed their second CMAS review. They started with the reading section, reading multiple passages and answering multiple choice questions. The remainder of the week was spent on their writing section, which used the same passage sets for their writing prompt. After reviewing responses over the weekend, we spent this week reviewing the passages, using the prompt to annotate the text, and walking through the steps of writing responses together as a class. By the end of today (Friday 2/23), students should have a 5-paragraph essay that is color coded and adheres to the RACES formula. The assignment (and notes) can be found within your students teams page. Instructions for finding these resources are detailed below.

How to access this assignment:

  • Teams
  • ELA Class
  • Classwork tab
  • Select the Feb 12 -16 Module:
    • CMAS Passage Set 2 (These are the passage sets for the prompt)
    • CMAS Writing Analysis 2 (This is where your student should type their response. The prompt is in the description.)
    • CMAS 2 (Notes, requirements, and examples for their writings)

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your time and support.

Sincerely,

Chris Garlock
