Science and puzzle club!

Hi science families!

This week, we will be having our ELA CMAS Tuesday through Thursday mornings. Students will have regular classes in the afternoon. In science, we will be working on our end of the year project. Students have identified 1 vocabulary term for each letter of the alphabet that relates to what they have learned this year in science. Working on the project allows them to buy into their own learning and give as much as they can after a morning of teaching. The project is due mid-May so they should not be working on it at home!

In other news, I will be running a puzzle club on Wednesday's and would love for your kiddo to attend! Puzzling is a great way to have a way of creating mental stimulation, stress relief, a sense of accomplishment, patience, teamwork and collaboration! Students will be able to work individually or with a group to solve puzzles ranging from 50 to 500 pieces in a relaxing environment. I will also be providing a snack!

Please talk to your kiddo and sign them up using the link below. The sign-up closes Sunday at 11:59 pm.

Reach out with any questions and have a great weekend!

Gradebook Update

Hi science families,

Thank you for your patience as I enter grades for this quarter. For my classroom policy, I allow students 2 weeks to turn in missing work or fix their work after I enter it in the gradebook. If they are missing an assignment, please encourage them to turn it in or get a blank copy to complete the work!

Please reach out with any questions and have a great weekend!

7th Science 1/22-1/26

Hello Science families!

We have officially began our new unit of Heredity and your students are loving it! I am hoping they came home talking about the traits that they have that you may or may not have (like being able to roll your tongue!). This week, we will be:

  • Review Punnett squares
  • Create their own monster with its own alleles, genotypes and phenotype
  • Create a “baby” monster with a partner using the genotypes that each of their monsters have (practicing looking for genotypes and determining traits with the Punnett square)
  • Take a quiz on Mendelian Genetics (traits, genotypes, phenotypes, Punnett Squares)

As always, please reach out with any questions and have a great week!

7th science 1/8 - 1/12

Welcome back!

I hope you had a restful break! We will finish our Energenics unit. We were unable to finish it before break since I came down with covid. This week we will:

  • Review classroom routines and procedures
  • Have a lesson with Ms. Charlie about trophic pyramids and complete a fun activity
  • Complete their individual ecosystem trophic pyramid

Please reach out with any questions or concerns and have a great week!

7th Grade Science 11/27 - 12/1

Hello science families!

I hope you had a great week! In science, we are starting a new unit that we should be able to finish before winter break. We are starting our Energy Flow unit where we will learn about photosynthesis, how energy flows through an ecosystem and trophic pyramids. This week, we will:

  • Complete a photosynthesis QR quest
  • Complete notes
  • Review with an activity
  • Complete a quiz

As a reminder, students are able to complete test corrections for our Cells Unit and turn them in to me by this Friday (12/1). Please reach out with any questions or concerns and have a great week!

Test Corrections

Hello science families!

Today (11/16) students received their graded assessments back and are given the opportunity for test corrections to show mastery. Unless a student has already received a 4, students can complete a test correction sheet to show mastery of their material. This is not mandatory but it is highly encouraged!

To receive credit back, on the form they must:
  • put the question number
  • record their original answer
  • record the correct answer
  • give a 2-3 sentence explaining why it is the correct answer
All of our PowerPoints are in a folder on Teams. I encourage them to use them to help their explainations! Please let me know if your student cannot log into Teams at home and I can help troubleshoot.

I will be out of the building tomorrow as my husband is having a preventive procedure but I will be available by email to answer questions!

They have until 12/1 to complete the test corrections. Please reach out with any questions or concerns and have a great break!

7th Grade Science 11/6-11/10

Hello science families!

This past week, we focused on cellular transport and began learning the cell cycle. This 4-day week, we will:
  • Finish our cell cycle notes
  • Create a cell cycle paper plate note keeper
  • Determine why and how cancer is formed
  • Learn about cell regulation
We will be wrapping up our cells unit next week and will take a unit exam before fall break. Please reach out with any questions and have a great week!

7th Grade Science - 10/30 - 11/3

Hello 7th grade science families!

Last week we were able to get caught up and then some! We ended the week doing an osmosis gummy bear lab. This week we will:
  • Monday -Review cellular transportation and the cell membrane and then take an informal "quiz" (will be graded as an assignment, not assessment)
  • Tuesday morning - pumpkin catapult; Tuesday afternoon - none (Halloween party)
  • Wednesday - Cell Cycle Click and Learn (the afternoon class will be split into other classes as my advocacy will be going on a walking field trip to get our advocacy class pet)
  • Thursday and Friday - Cell Cycle notes and practice
As always, please reach out with any questions and have a great week!

7th Grade Science 10/23-10/27

Hello 7th grade science families!

I hope you had a great week. This past Tuesday I unexpectedly lost my cat, and I was out on Tuesday and Wednesday. Because of this, we are about a day behind than what I planned but I know we can get caught up! I appreciate your patience as I get caught up on grades as well. This week, we will:

  • Review cell membrane
  • Determine how cells move materials in and out of the cell
  • Learn how osmosis works and complete a virtual lab

As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns. Have a great week!

7th grade science 10/16 - 10/20

Hello 7th grade science families!

Hope you all had a wonderful break and are ready for second quarter! We ended the quarter by completing a cell choice board activity and that will be the first grade in the gradebook. This week, we will:

  • Understand why and how the leaves change colors
  • Determine how the cell membrane works
  • Understand the structure of the cell membrane
  • Complete an interactive activity by defending the cell and creating their own cell membrane

Please reach out with any questions and have a great week!

7th grade science

Hello 7th grade science families!

This week we will:
  • Research about an individual organelle to them teach their classmates
  • Fill in a note catcher about 14 specific organelles
  • Compare and contrast which organelles are in plant and animal cells
Please reach out with any questions!

7th grade science 9/5 - 9/8

Hello 7th grade science families!

This past week, we took a look at the characteristics of life and water. We are now officially moving into our first official unit, Cells!

This week, we will:
  • Look at key vocabulary words for this unit
  • Learn about cell theory
  • Compare and contrast Prokaryotic Vs Eukaryotic Cells
Please reach out with any questions or concerns!

7th Grade Science 8/21 - 8/25

Hi 7th grade science families!

We've had a great first 2 weeks of school! This week, we will continue to finish out introductory unit by learning about:
  • Life science prefixes and suffixes
  • Characteristics of life
  • Properties of water
I have imputed your students pre-assessment score into the gradebook but I want to reiterate that this will not affect their overall score for this quarter or school year. By having it in the grade book, we can refer back to it throughout the year and compare scores at the end of the year.

Please reach out with any questions and have a great week!

7th Grade Science 8/14-8/18

Hello 7th grade science families!

This year, 7th grade will be learning about life science! This week, we will:
  • Start with a pre-assessment for everything they will learn this year. This will go into the gradebook but it will not affect their grade as it isn't weighted! This is just to be able to look at their growth.
  • Review scientific method/ CER
  • Began learning the Prefixes, Suffixes and Roots that we will need this year.
We will be taking our MAPs tests on Thursday so our week will be a little shorter in the classrooms. I am looking forward to great year in science! Please reach out with any questions or concerns!
