Sept. 5-8

Language Arts' focus
 
Warmup: We will start looking at verbs and practice using both action and linking verbs
 
Reading:  We will continue reading Wonder and completing Reading Comprehension activities focusing on using the Story Plot Mountain. 
 
Writing:  The students will continue working on their Personal Narrative and following the writing process.  The final draft will be completed by Friday. 

August 28 - 31

Focus for
 
Writing:
  Students will be work on creating a five-paragraph personal narrative of their choice.  They will begin with brainstorming, write a rough draft, edit and then create a final copy. 
 
Reading:
  We will review the Elements of Fiction and then begin reading the book Wonder.  The format for reading Wonder will be prereading work, vocabulary, reading the book together, with partner and on silently on their own, comprehension questions, filling out the story plot mountain graphic organizer. 
 
 

August 21 - 25

Warmup focus this week will be on Nouns - common, proper, singular and plural nouns. 
 
The focus for Writing is working on Narrative writing going through the process of the writing steps. Students brainstorm, create an introduction with Hook to draw the reader in, writing their essay and ending with the conclusion.  The goal is to create a five-paragraph essay. 
 
For reading the focus continues to be the Elements of Literature.  We will work on what are the conflicts and themes in stories.  We will finish out the work with all the Elements of Literature using the Story Plot Mountain graphic organizer. 

August 14 - 18

Language Arts class is going to get into the groove of our regular schedule this week.  
The flow of class will be starting with a 
- Warmup activity working parts of speech, punctuation and capitalization
- Writing time, students will have a writing prompt and students will work on the writing process through the week
- Reading time, students will be working on a elements of literature unit. The focus will be working on Story Plot Mountain and the structure of fiction reading. 
 
Also, the students will have a free reading book that they will learn to enjoy the pleasure of reading.  They will be filling out a weekly log so that they can see their progress.
