Week of 4/8

Hello Parents and Guardians,

We are going to be missing class on occasion over the next few weeks due to CMAS testing so I can't give specific information about when things will be done but over the next few weeks we hope to finish our fraction multiplication unit (Unit 9) and fraction division unit (Unit 10).

Richard

Hello Parents and Guardians,

This week we finish up Unit 7 on dividing decimals. We've made some adjustments to class in the last few days and I think it has shown in the understanding of students.

Thanks,
Richard Varela

Hello Parents and Guardians,

So far students have learned partial quotient division, how to utilize multiplication to assist in division, using the area model, and traditional long division for single- and double-digit numbers. We will be finishing this up by next week and moving on to Unit 7!

Thanks,
Richard Varela

Week of 1/8/24

Hello Parents and Guardians,

We started the semester with Unit 6 and are moving along at a nice pace. Unit 6 involves long division and we'll be using several different strategies so if you want to assist your child with their learning at home, feel confident to!

Thanks,
Richard Varela

Week of 10/23

Hello Parents and Guardians,

Last week students finished the unit and took their tests for unit 3. They also checked the test themselves which was an enlightening experience for them. Expect to receive those tests in the Friday folder this week.

Thanks,
Richard Varela

Week of 10/16/23

Hello Parents and Guardians,

Students are finishing up their unit on adding and subtracting decimals. They will be taking the Unit 3 test on Thursday and a pre-test for Unit 4 on Friday.

Thanks,
Richard Varela

Students need to complete the "What is Incorrect part of this in their Math journals which should be in their backpacks.

They should respond to it using the RACE format:

Restate
Answer
Cite
Explain

All students have familiarity with this format.

Thank you,
Richard

Week of 9/18/23

Hello Parents and Guardians,

After Outdoor Ed we will be starting our next unit which covers adding and subtracting decimals. We will bring this to a little more life by utilizing marble races and measuring race times and comparing them as we improve our skills.

Thanks,
Richard Varela

Week of 9/11/23

Hello Parents and Guardians,

We are finishing Unit 2 this week and moving on to Unit 3 at the end of the week. Unit two is concise, with only 4 lessons, focusing on the Order of Operations. Unit 3 will be about adding and subtracting decimals.

We have finished Unit 1 and will take our end-of-unit assessment on Tuesday. Monday we'll review what we've learned to ensure we are prepared for the test and then Wednesday we'll work through some Geometry brain teasers. Thursday we will most likely be starting Unit 2 but we may push it off until we return from the long weekend.

Thanks,
Richard Varela
