Ms. Calder, Math, 6th Grade

Posts

Sept. 5-8

The warmup activity will be practicing math skills from Chapter 1; factors, prime factorization, GCF, and LCM.

We will be finishing Chapter 1 this week and moving on into Chapter 2, Fractions and Decimals.

I hope to get the students logged into the Big Ideas website as there are many great tools for students to practice math skills.

August 28 - 31

The students are getting into the math groups, and I am pleased how well all the students are doing.  We are currently in Chapter 1 and cruising through with the lessons based on what each student needs to learn.
We have worked on exponents, order of operations, prime factorization and Greatest Common Factor.

I would like to complete Chapter 1 learning before the long weekend.

August 21 - 25

Warmups will be reviewing Math skills and preview skills that we will be working on this year.

The students took the Chapter 1, Numerical Expressions and factors, pretest so I could have a better understanding of what they need to learn.

We will be starting Math groups based on the skills that they need to learn.  The groups can change daily based on the learning that needs to be acquired. We will learn the routine and expectations of what small groups look like and the tasks that need to be completed while waiting for instructions.

August 14 - 18

The students will be getting in the Math class regular routine this week with the exception of Tuesday where the students will be taking the MAP assessment.

Math class will be run with a warmup to start class, there will be daily math work, and then small group instruction based on the math skills that they need to conquer.

In 6th grade math the students have a math book with 10 Chapters.   At the beginning of each Chapter, students will be given a pretest. Based on the outcome of the pretest, students will be taught the math skills that they haven't learned yet in a small group.

Chapter 1 is working on Numerical Expressions and Factors.
