• This is a celebration of the student's hard work this year and a send-off to their next grade

• End of the year party will happen from 10:15-11:15 am
• The Carnival will happen from 2:00-6:00 pm
• The Open House will happen during the carnival from 3:00-5:00 pm. Students will have work from Language Arts and Math displayed in their advocacy classes for you to see!

On Monday, students will get a surprise for World Bee Day! Then, we will learn about mass and finish up our unit on volume. Then, for the rest of the year, we will focus on geometry and understanding data.

We are learning how to relate the metric system to the imperial system by measuring the objects all around us! Students are learning how to properly measure using a ruler and tape measure. We will also continue to work on volume and other forms of measurement.

This week students will finish their math "books" project! Then, we will transition into learning about how to measure and different measurements used around the world.

We are continuing to work on our math books that students started during CMAS testing. Each pairing of students is creating an info page about a unit we learned this year. By the end of this project, we will have "books" for students to take home, and for us to share with younger classes.

 

We will also continue to work on Elapsed Time and have a short test on Wednesday. 

Welcome back from spring break! For the first half of this week, we are focusing on elapsed time and time zones. Students will learn how to add and subtract within the different time zones in the United States. Then, we are going to shift into reviewing shapes and symmetry (and other past units if we have time).

 

CMAS is coming up next week, so if you want to review past units like multiplication/division or fractions, let me know and I can send home some resources.

We will be working on our fraction pizza to end our fractions unit. We will then move on to learning about time, liquid volume, and mass! This is a super fun unit.

We are still focusing on fractions! We are at a few different places with fractions in class. Here are the things we are working on: comparing fractions with the same denominators, comparing fractions with different denominators, adding fractions with the same denominator, simplifying fractions, adding fractions with a different denominator, and adding fractions that are mixed numbers.

We will continue to work with fractions! Students will transition from comparing fractions with the same denominator to comparing fractions with different denominators. Students will also work with mixed numbers.

This week we are learning how to identify fractions visually and on a number line. Students will learn how to compare fractions as well.

We are spending a few more days on inverse operations in relation to multi-digit addition and subtraction problems. Then, we will move on to identifying fractions and using number lines to determine a fractions value. 

 

There will be no Multiplication Race this week because students do not have school on Friday!

This week we are finishing up our unit on mutli-digit addition and subtraction work. Students are focusing on the addition properties (commutative and associate) to help them solve more difficult problems. We will also review how to do addition and subtraction on a number line.
