Good afternoon! Please see below for the schedule and notes around this last month of school.

Schedule

Classes at Front Range Community College end on May 8th. As with previous years, Westgate High School will follow our normal FRCC schedule through Friday, May 19thAll HS students will attend Westgate the following week, May 22nd - May 26th (see below). Here's a more concrete breakdown:

Week of May 8th: Normal Westgate HS schedule (if students would normally attend FRCC, they are released at lunch). We will still have a bus to FRCC on Monday the 8th as some students will still have classes that day.

Week of May 15th: Normal Westgate schedule (if students would normally attend FRCC, they are released at lunch)

Week of May 22nd: All HS students (including seniors) attend Westgate following the schedule on our website.

Monday - Wednesday: Students attend 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Thursday: Students attend 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM. Families may return for the carnival from 2:00 - 6:00 PM

Friday: Students attend 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM. No afternoon classes or activities.

The schedule above does not account for service trips. You have likely received an email from your student's advocate regarding the schedule for their trip. Please reach out to them if you have service trip-specific questions! Senior families: a separate email will arrive later this week with graduation information.

Finals

Semester 2 finals will occur during normal class times for all classes. Although we will review material in class, students should begin studying on their own at home. Seniors will take all finals before leaving for their service trip. Some final projects and essays have already begun in class. Please ask your student about their finals, then reach out to specific teachers if you have questions.

Our Spring Carnival and silent auction is quickly approaching! To help make our silent auction a success, each advocacy will be collecting items to be assembled into a basket that will be sold at the silent auction to be held at the Spring Carnival on May 25th from 2:00-6:00pm. This year we will need 2 parent volunteers per pod to assemble the baskets once the items are collected. The SignUp Genius below includes items for the baskets in the High School pod. We are not collecting cash donations for baskets this year and instead are focusing on items and gift cards related to the basket theme. Please send donated items in with your child no later than May 19th Click here for High School basket donation sign up.  Thank you for your contributions! Watch for more information on the carnival coming soon!

It's that time of year... our Spring Mini Carnival is coming May 25th.  The themed classroom baskets are always a huge fundraiser for our school and they will be on display for auction during the carnival. We ask that every family donate at least 1 item at any price point for one of the themed baskets listed.  There are two themes for High School pod which include:  Coffee Lover and Tea Time.  All it takes is every family pitching in a little bit to create some really fun, unique baskets for auction! Donations can be dropped off at the school during normal school hours. All donations are due by May 19th.

Recently, we have had a rise in students placing delivery lunch orders (Domino's Pizza, Uber Eats, etc.). They order their lunch to the school, then go to the front desk or outside to pick it up. Please note that this is not permitted at Westgate; students can leave campus for lunch with permission, but they cannot order the lunch to come to them. This leads to Natalie needing to shift through lunches at the front desk and, when delivery runs late, it leads to students bringing their lunch into class. Given that students often order food for friends as well, it can become a major distraction in the classroom.

If food is ordered for delivery, they can pick it up at the end of the day from the front desk. If a student ever forgets their lunch, they can tell a teacher - we keep a small number of extra ones in case of emergencies. A guardian or parent can also drop off lunch directly.

Hello, Wonderful Westgate Families!

I have an exciting announcement: our third annual Hogwarts Day will be this Friday, November 18th! Students can look forward to joining like-minded friends for a day of fun, food, and activities. Is your student a clever Ravenclaw or an ambitious Slytherin? A friendly Hufflepuff, or a daring Gryffindor? Students may join whichever group they feel most comfortable with for the day, and we encourage them to dress the part! If a student is unsure of their house or comfortable with any of the groups, we will find a place for them as well.

During the day, students will be engaging in Hogwarts-themed classes with their house rather than their advocacy (Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, etc). They will have a chance to earn house points during class to win the house cup! Slytherin are our current reigning winners. Quidditch will take place on pool noodles either outside or in the gym. Please see the slideshow for details!

Seniors: Many of our seniors normally have their internships Friday morning. If they would like to attend Hogwarts in the morning, they should reach out to their supervisors to request the morning off so they can join us for the feast and morning activities. If they would prefer to work their internship, then they can join us at the normal afternoon time.

Our schedule will be as follows:

8:00 – 9:00: Breakfast in the Great Hall (HS Commons)

9:00 – 9:30: House Meetings and Decorating

9:30 – 11:30: Begin Class Rotations (3 classes)

11:30 – 12:30: Lunch

12:30 – 1:30: Class Rotations (2 classes)

1:30 – 3:00: Quidditch! (Backup for weather: Movie)

3:00: Ending Circle/Awarding of the House Cup

Important: For our morning breakfast, we are requesting individually-wrapped donations from any family who would like to contribute. We would be extremely grateful for anything you can donate – every little bit helps add to a meaningful start to the students’ day. Please follow the link below to find a SignUp Genius with items we need.

As always, thank you for being such an amazing part of our community and for allowing us to teach such incredible students. If your student will not be attending Hogwarts Day, please call the front office to make sure their absence is excused.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or Mr. Cuevas at [email protected]

Halloween Expectations

Halloween is next Monday, October 31st. Given that the high school runs on a different schedule due to FRCC, high school students may wear their costumes all day! We do not, however, hold any Halloween parties. If a student attends FRCC, it is completely up to them as to whether they want to change back to regular clothes before college or continue wearing their costumes.

Halloween Costume Expectations
  • No masks
  • No face paint
  • No weapons or anything that can be used as a weapon
  • No inappropriate or offensive costumes
  • Nothing that may block another students' view during class time
  • If it would break our normal dress code regarding drugs, alcohol, skin exposure, violence, etc, don't wear it!
If a student's outfit breaks any of these rules, we may ask them to adjust their outfit or, if necessary, call home to receive alternate clothing.

Your student will not receive a physical copy of a ticket as they do for prom, but we will keep a running list if they pay ahead of time. Tickets can also be purchased online at our School Store (CLICK HERE, a $0.44 processing fee will be added).

Who can attend: Homecoming is open to all Westgate High School students. They may ask the front desk for a Guest Form if they would like to invite a high school student from another school. Guest Forms are due Friday, September 30th.

Happenings: Along with the dance itself, students will have a room to eat and a room to play games. We will also hold our annual Homecoming Flick Football tournament during this time, so find a teammate and begin practicing now!

Finally, a note on the date: Westgate's homecoming normally occurs on a school day. In past years, we've had frequent requests to hold it on a day off so students have more time to prepare, dress up, and perhaps go out to dinner with friends before attending. We wanted to honor these requests, so we are trying something new!

Hope to see your students there!

Conference Sign-Ups

Conference Dates

In-Person: Monday, October 3rd , 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (no conferences 12 – 1 or 5 – 6 for teacher breaks)

Virtual: Tuesday, October 4th, 8:00 AM to Noon

Information for ALL Conferences

Team Conferences:  In Westgate’s high school, you will sign up to see your student’s advocate, and there will be one or two other teachers present. Your advocate will walk through each of your student’s grades with input from the other teachers present. We teachers will send additional notes to one another before conferences to share about your student as needed. Due to the lack of time and to ensure at least some teachers can see every family, families will be unable to see every teacher. As always, though, feel free to email specific teachers with questions about their classes if you are unable to see that teacher at conferences.

Name: We will begin each conference by asking for your student’s name and pronouns. We will begin all conferences this way, even if we have met before.

Time slots: Using one of the links at the end of the email, you can sign up for a fifteen-minute time slot. If you do not sign up before conferences, we will not be able to meet, but feel free to send an email. We cannot accommodate families who walk in or log in without signing up prior to the conference date. In order to stay on schedule, if a conference ends and you still have questions, please send an email to the appropriate teacher!

Important Notes: As always, Infinite Campus is a great place to find your students’ grades as well as an updated record of what work your student is missing for individual classes. We are also available via email during normal school hours and will reply within two business days of receiving a question. If your student has a failing grade or a question that can’t be answered through email, then conferences are the place for you!

Information for IN-PERSON Conferences

No Walk-Ins: It may be tempting to stop by the school and try to meet with the teachers, particularly if you are already here due to having students in other grades. If you do not sign up for a conference, please do not walk down in the hopes of the teachers being free. We keep a tight schedule during conferences, and it is unfair to those who signed up if we need to adjust things to try and accommodate walk-ins.

You will only see a few teachers. As mentioned above, each conference will primarily take place with a student’s advocate and one or two other teachers depending on who is available. Even if you see another teacher pass by the room or in another conference, please refrain from trying to meet with them; we keep a tight schedule. If you feel the need to reach out to that teacher, please do so using email.

COVID Guidelines: Following guidance from TriCounty Health, masks are no longer required and are instead optional based on personal preference and comfortability.

Information for VIRTUAL Conferences

Virtual Platform: For these conferences, we will using Microsoft Teams. We will send a link to everyone with a conference a few days before conferences take place. When you log on, please name yourself clearly so we know who you are!

Conference Links

The links have been taken down as of 9/28, if you are wanting to schedule a conference please reach out to your student's advocate.
