Science 11/7 - 11/10

This week in science, we will be:
  • Conducting a protein synthesis "lab" where we recreate the process of protein synthesis with candy
  • Take a quiz on protein synthesis 
  • Have an introduction on mitosis
As always, students can make up any missing work or low-scoring assignments during Academic Success Lab or if they finish another assignment early.

Science 10/24 - 10/28

Hello science families!
 
We had a great start to quarter 2 and are starting our new unit of genetics! This week, we will focus on DNA replication and protein synthesis. 
 
This quarter, students will have 2 weeks to complete missing assignments before they are given a 1. For assignments that were given before break, they will have until November 4th to make up the assignment. Students will be made aware of this week and will always have time during academic lab to make up missing assignments!

  • Begin our new unit on genetics starting with DNA structure, function and replication

Science - Sept. 26-30

Hello science families!
 
We are one week out from fall break! This week, we will:
  • Learn about bacteria and viruses
  • Complete a bacteria project where students will research a specific bacteria/ disease and then present to the class

7th Grade Science - Sept. 19-23

Hello 7th grade science families!
 
We are in our second to last week of the first quarter! Please remind your students that they are able to make up any missing work for up a 3 until this Wednesday (the 21st). They can also retake assignments for up to a 3 as well. After the 21st, all teachers will no longer be taking missing assignments and final grades are due this Friday at midnight. We will continue with assignments and content next week, but these will be considered Quarter 2 grades. 
 
This week we will:
  • Learn about cellular transportation 
  • Take a quiz on cellular transportation

Science Sept. 12-16

Hello 7th grade science families, 
 
Lots of things happening this week! We will:
  • Review animal and plant cell organelles
  • Take a quiz on labeling cell organelles 
  • Begin cell transportation
As we are winding down on the first quarter, please make sure to remind your students to use Academic Lab to get caught up on missing work.

7th Science: Aug. 29 - Sept. 1

Hello 7th grade science families! We had a great week starting our cells unit!
 
This week:
  • Monday - Wednesday:
    • Students attending Outdoor Ed will be working on team building and outdoor skills provided by IdRaHaJe!
    • Students staying at school will be learning orienteering/ compass skills, creating a guide to their favorite outdoor spot at Westgate and trying their classmates instructions.
  • Thursday:
    •  we will review the levels of organizations for cells.
  • Friday
    • No school! (Teacher work day)

7th Science - Aug. 22-26

Hello everyone!
 
I finally have access to Infinite Campus so I will have all grades updated here soon, thanks for being patient with me!
 
This week we will be starting our first unit, cellular life! We will:
  • have a pre-assessment of the unit
  • learn the levels of organization and complete an activity
  • learn about Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells

Science Aug. 8-12

Happy Sunday! We had a great week 1. We spent time getting to know each other and had our first STEM lab - an index card challenge where students had to create the tallest tower only using index cards.
 
This week, we will continue to work on classroom expectations as well as expectations with lab materials. MAP testing will take place on Wednesday, students will take a pre-assessment and we will have our second STEM lab.
