Social Studies Update Week of 8/22/22

Greetings from 7 grade Social Studies!

Last week students studied the differences between Primary and Secondary sources and took a quiz on that. We also began our look into the ancient Mesopotamian Civilization.

This week students will read about Ancient Mesopotamia and complete some reading comprehension questions. Next students will learn more about Cuneiform; the first writing system developed in Mesopotamia. They will practice on paper and then get to create mini-clay tablets they write on using cuneiform. We will then analyze various primary documents relating to ancient Mesopotamia.

Please email with any questions.

Sincerely,
Mr. Rowan

Social Studies Update Week of 8/15/22

Greetings Social Studies families!
Unfortunately I was out sick last week Wednesday through Friday, so we will begin Monday by regrouping and touching base on how things went while I was gone. We will finish up our characteristics of civilizations study and then look at the difference between primary and secondary sources.
At this point, we should be ready to apply what we've learned and begin studying ancient river civilizations of he Eastern Hemisphere. The first civilization that we will look to understand will be Mesopotamia.
If you have any questions, please email.
Sincerely,
Mr. Rowan

Social Studies Update Week of 8/8/2022

Last week students reviewed the 5 Themes of Geography as a foundation for our exploration of ancient civilizations of the Eastern Hemisphere. This week we will use G.R.A.P.E.S. to help us understand the six components of civilization: Geography, Religion, Achievements, Economy and Social Structure. We will watch a video, read descriptions and complete notes on this strategy. We will then complete a Nearpod lesson to learn about the factors that led to the development of civilizations, and how this changed the way of life.
