Welcome to Advocacy!

Hello, Advocacy Families!

I am Allie Haworth (I go by Mrs. Haworth) and I am your child’s Advocacy Teacher/ Advocate for 2022-2023. Advocacy is more than a Homeroom. Advocacy classes are first and foremost a time for students to build supportive relationships with their peers and with an adult they can trust. It is a time for everyone to feel recognized and welcomed into the school community. As your child’s Advocate, I will be your primary point of communication, and I am committed to advocating for your child this year.

I began my educational journey four years ago as a small group intervention teacher for mathematics. I worked with students who were below grade level and helped them achieve their goals to be back at grade level by the end of the year. I did this for two years before I decided I was ready to tackle a full math classroom at a charter in Denver. Through all of this experience, I kept getting called back to my love of science and I am very excited to be starting my first year here at Westgate. I believe that students learn best in a welcoming and safe environment where they aren't afraid to take risks and are encouraged to be their true selves. Additionally, I love spending time with my toddler and husband, doing anything outside, crafting and lots of iced coffee!

I have subscribed to you my Advocacy page and will soon assign you to my classroom page, so you will receive updates to your email automatically. On my pages, I will be posting academic information on my Edlio every week for you to look at. Monthly, I will post Advocacy specific information unless there is something on the school calendar that you might need reminding for.

The first week of school will allow for 7th/8th grade students to be spending time in each Specials class so that they can get to know all of the teachers. At the end of the week, they will be choosing their specials. Once your child has chosen, you will have to subscribe to their Specials teacher's Edlio page.

This month, our August Advocacy theme is RISE!

At Westgate, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a part of our Whole Child Education program. PBIS is a system in which students, staff and community create a set of school-wide behavioral expectations/ core values, we teach those expectations in all of our various environments, and then we CELEBRATE when we see students doing those things! At Westgate, we RISE (Respect, Integrity, Safety, Empathy).
