Dewar Language Arts- Week of Jan. 10

Writing: 

This quarter for writing we will be completing two tasks: 

  1. Grammar in interactive student notebooks (paper copies will need to be requested AND picked up if absent/quarantined.) 
  1. Persuasive Writing- on Teams in our class notebook 

Reading: 

This quarter we will be reading The Giver by Lois Lowry 

-Students will complete four critical thinking questions with each chapter. 

-On Fridays, students will meet in predetermined book club groups to discuss the chapters they read that week. Each group will be reading at their own pace that they decide on. Each group member will complete a group role. 

*Resources can be found digitally on Teams, in our class notebook in case of absences/quarantines. 

Dewar's Language Arts- Week of Dec. 13

Writing: 

-Hatchet Book VS Movie Compare & Contrast Venn diagram then paragraph 

Reading: 

-Hatchet choice board projects- must have 4 total stars worth- Need to be done before Wed. Morning LA.  

 

*Conferences Thursday & Friday 

Please read over break!  

Dewar's Language Arts- Week of Dec. 6

Writing: 

-Internet Field Trip Activity- explore more about the setting and characters from Hatchet before we watch the movie! 

-Writing Assessment- Wednesday

-Watch A Cry In The Wild which is the movie version of Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.- Look out for the permission form email Monday morning! 

Reading: 

-Hatchet choice board projects- must have 4 total stars worth 

-Please return all Hatchet books!

Writing: 

-Plot Mountain Notes & Individual Sorting Activity 

-Table Group Fairy Tale Plot Sort Activity & Plot Mountain Quiz

Reading: 

-Read 3-6 choice books on Epic! And complete the reading response form for at least 3 of them. 

 

*ALL late/missing work for the quarter is due this Friday, Dec. 3 for all my classes

Draft 2: 

-Edit Draft 2 

-Self grade with student rubric 

-Final Draft  (5 paragraphs)

Hatchet by Gary Paulsen 

-Read Ch. 16-Epilogue 

-Fridays are catch up days if needed/free choice book days 

-There are reading comprehension/vocabulary/extension packets that all students will be completing- it will depend which level they are at for what they receive.  Please email me if you are unsure!

*6th grade Field Trip Thursday- students will be with Mrs. Sanders for LA.
