PE 6th Week 9- 3/8-3/11

This week please find the video recording on our stream channel. It will detail the activities for the week and, hopefully, answer any questions you might have. All assignments will be completed in your class notebook under health resources.  Everyday, warm up and do the stretching routineOn Monday, I would like everyone to find a Darebee.com workout, tell me the name of the workout, heart rate before the workout, heart rate after the workout. On Tuesday, I would like you to revisit the Tabata workouts that you put together a few weeks ago. If you have not actually done your tabata, do it! If you have done your tabata’s then come up with another set of 8 exercises, set the online timer, and get after it! On Wednesday, I would like everyone to join me in a yoga flow. This yoga workout is recorded, play the video and follow along as we breathe and work to refocus the mind. After completing the yoga workout, I would like you to reflect on how you are feeling (in class notebook). On Thursday, please visit The Body Coach TV on youtube. He has a great Beginner Exercise series filled with 15min exercises. I encourage you to check those out and find one that you want to do. If you do not want to search for one, I put a link to a workout in our physical activity guide for the week. Tell me the name of the workout video you did and your heart rate before and after. Have a great week!

PE 6th Week 8- 3/1-3/5

This week we will continue with our warm up and stretching routines. Students will be filling out their physical activity log, in their class notebook, to help plan/track their physical activity for the week. We will be doing a Wheel of Fun workout, which will be a compilation of various exercises/yoga moves/stretches that we have been doing this quarter. Our goal will be to increase our heart rates for 10-15mins as we work through the exercises. Students will be completing a current event this week. Students will be asked to find a current event/topic related to health and wellness. They will summarize the article, explain why they chose this article, explain what they already knew about the topic, what they learned about the topic, and what they want to learn more about. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s current events!! Stay Active!

PE 6th Week 7- 2/22-2/26

Thank you to everyone who completed last weeks Darebee.com self guided workouts. I really enjoyed looking at those and have tried several of those workouts. This week we will continue with our warm up and stretching routines. We will begin talking about the components of physical fitness being cardio endurance, flexibility, body comp, muscular strength, and muscular endurance. Students will be completing the comprehension questions in their class notebook Students will research each component and then identify ways that you can improve each component of physical fitness. We will also be participating in a plank workout which will challenge the students to elevate their heart rates for 10-15mins. Don’t forget that the Darebee.com Self Guided Workout #2 was due last Friday(2/19).  Double check to make sure you have completed this assignment.

PE 6th Week 6- 2/15-2/19

Great job last week. I really enjoyed getting into our growth mindset conversations. I hope everyone had a nice relaxing long weekend and are ready to take on the week! This week we will be wrapping up our growth mindset activity that we started last week. I will be leading the students through a full body cardio workout and students will be asked to complete a Darebee.com workout outside of class. The assignment asks students to find a workout that will challenge them to increase their heart rates for 10-15mins. Students should be taking their heart rates before the workout and then comparing it to their heart rates after the workout to determine the effectiveness of the workout/their effort. You should shoot to be above 60% of your max heart rate upon completion of the workout.

PE 6th Week 5- 2/8-2/12

This week we will continue with our Warm up and stretching routines. We will begin talking about Growth Mindset, what is it, why is it important, how do we get it. Students will be watching a youtube video and exploring TrainUgly.com. Students will be completing a growth mindset questionnaire and answering some comprehension questions to show me that they understand the main characteristics of a growth mindset. We will also be doing a Tabata Timer workout. Students will be creating their own Tabata Timer workouts in their class notebooks and completing their workouts throughout the week. The goal for the Tabata Timer workout is to construct a personal, self-led, workout that will challenge you to increase your heart rate for 10-15mins. This assignment is located in your class notebook. Yoga assignment from last week is due this Friday for late credit.

PE 6th Week 4- 2/1-2/5

This week we will be continuing with our warm up and stretching routines. I encourage everyone to find 5-10 mins a day to go through these. We will be coming up with an exercise goal for the week (how many days do you want to challenge yourself to do a little 10min workout?). We will be doing a Tabata workout with the goal being to increase our heart rates for 12-15mins. This will be a preview of next weeks assignment. We will be using the tabata timer and working hard for 35 seconds and then resting for 25 seconds. Students were asked to complete their yoga flipgrid assignment last week (due this friday, if you have not turned it in). This week students will be exploring an article that highlights the 13 benefits of yoga. After reading the article students will reflect on how yoga can help them in some way be it in the classroom, on the sports court, or just to be a more mindful person. This assignment will be posted as a flipgrid assignment. You do not have to submit it through flipgrid, I will accept emailed responses to the questions. Let me know if you have any questions! Make it a great week!

PE 6th Week 1- 1/11-1/14

It was really nice seeing most everyone last week. I hope everyone had a restful week and are ready to get back into the swing of things! This week we will be starting class with a warm up and stretching routine. We will be making sure everyone is logged into our flipgrid class and has completed their PreAssessment. This might be a little repeat of last Thursday’s class, but we have to get everyone on the same page to start! On Monday, I will be showing students the DAREBEE.com website and how to access the workouts. We will complete level one of one of the workouts together in class and students will then complete their own darebee.com workout of their choice. This assignment will be posted on our PE FLIPGRID page and due at the end of the week. On Thursday, students will vote to either participate in our WESTGATE pattern workout or a yoga flow with the goal being to increase their heart rates for 12-16mins. Next week we will be talking about the mental health benefits of exercise and how it WILL help you with your school work!
