We meet ever day at the following times: 8:00-8:15, 12:45-1:15, and 3:15-3:30.Welcome to our Advocacy Class! Advocacy classes are first and foremost a time for students to build supportive relationships with their peers and with and adult they can trust. It is a time for everyone to feel recognized and welcomed into the WCS community. During this daily block, students meet with their faculty Advocate to engage in activities that support their social and emotional growth, career readiness and academic success. These sessions provide students with the opportunities for positive peer interaction, life skills, development and coaching to overcome educational, personal and social barriers to educational attainment.
Goals of WCS's Advocacy Program
1: To develop, maintain and foster relationships between and among students and the advocate and with students' families and supporters.
2: To support students in reflecting upon and monitoring their academic progress through a formal conferencing structure.
3: To recognize when student's personal, physical, emotional, social and psychological needs are presenting barriers to success and sue strategies to overcome them.
4: To identify and develop the necessary attitudes, behaviors, awareness and skills to succeed in school, college and life.
5: To provide students with the resources and information necessary to make thoughtful decisions about the future.
