Hello Westgate Families!
I have such an incredible vision for this upcoming school year not only in my classroom, but as a Westgate community. We have an abundance of wonderful additions to our school and in the classrooms, and I could not be more excited to share them with your kiddos.

A bit about me, this is my second year at Westgate as a 1-2 teacher. I have a background in special education, social emotional learning as well as gifted education.  Learning and teaching is my ever evolving passion, and I am so grateful to continue that path here at Westgate. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!

No Pokemon or Fidget Spinners

Hi Parents,
I have made the decision to no longer allow fidget spinners in my class. They seemed to have lost their purpose and become more of a distraction than help. I have had to take too much time out of the day to redirect students to use their fidget spinners correctly. If your student needs special accommodations in my class please feel free to email me and we can come up with a solution. This is not a pod rule, just in Mrs. O'Briens class and mine.
I also want to reiterate that Pokemon cards are NOT allowed at all in the 1/2 pod. This includes recess, lunch, and even car line.

MAPS Testing

Hi Parents,
Hope everyone had a great long weekend! Just wanted to let you know that we are starting MAPS testing today. We will start with reading today and continue through tomorrow afternoon. The goal is to finish all makeups by Wednesday.

Transitioning for Ability Grouping

Last week we had a smooth start to our transition for ability grouping and will continue this week. We will start switching for literacy tomorrow morning. Please let us know if you have any questions, but also have grace as we all go through this transition!

Solar Eclipse

Hi Parents,
I apologize for the weekend email and the late notice, but I wanted to send you a heads up that we will NOT be going outside to view the solar eclipse on Monday. Due to safety concerns we have decided to keep all 1/2 grades inside and will view it live from NASA. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Happy Friday!

Hi Parents! Just a quick reminder to be checking Friday Folders this weekend. Students should be coming home with info about the Original Works fundraiser as well as info about ordering books from Scholastic. If our class orders $50 or more every kiddo in class receives a free book!

Happy Monday!

Hi Parents,
Just wanted to give you a heads up that you should have received a picture day form in your kiddo's Friday Folder sent home with them last week. This folder is where all important documents and completed work will be sent home, please be sure to check it every Friday.

First Week of School!

We have successfully finished an amazing first week of school! It has been incredible getting to know your kiddos and I am looking forward to an awesome year with them!
