Hello Westgate Families!

My name is Kyra Long (Ms. Long to students), and this is my first year here at Westgate, but my 5th year in education. I've taught 6th grade math for the last 4 years, and I'm super excited to jump into 7th and 8th grade math!

My journey into education was inspired long before I entered a classroom. I grew up begging my teachers for jobs to do around the classroom, stretching as far as even staying inside from recess to help them file and grade :) I used to teach math and English to a group of stuffed animals, and absolutely loved going to school every single day. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Theatre from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2022 (sko Buffs!), then went on to complete my Master's degree in Mathematics Education at Relay Graduate School of Education in 2025. I truly learned how to balance my life, because I was a full-time student while also being a full-time teacher!

My hope is that every student who walks through my classroom doors feels seen, valued, safe, and inspired to become the best mathematician that they can be. Students deserve a teacher who they know cares about them, and is passionate about their craft. Math has been a huge part of my life, and I actually had a pretty bad relationship with it when I was in middle school - that's why I love teaching it!! I strive to be the kind of math teacher that I needed as a student.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my fiancé and older sister, as well as cooking, wedding planning, attending musical theatre shows, watching true crime documentaries and hanging out with my 1-year-old nephew, Maddox! Some of my favorite things include Dr. Pepper, Dutch Bros & Starbucks, pink Redbull, Broadway and Dance Moms :)

I look forward to partnering with our students and families as we learn and grow together here at Westgate!

Please feel free to reach out to me at any time :)
