Tim Cuevas
Mathematics Teacher
High School Team Lead
Hello!
My name is Tim Cuevas. You may have seen me wandering around Westgate, usually down in the basement or out and about around the school. I'm entering my sixth year at Westgate, and my love for the school and its community continues to grow. I can't wait to begin another year!
A bit about my content: math can often look like some sort of monster – an insurmountable obstacle we're forced to face in school. Even after 12 years, the monster may not feel conquered (if even understood). I believe math is so much more than that. It is the foundation on which we’ve built our world, and it is a tool we can use to tackle troubles in our day-to-day lives. Every student has the ability to become a confident mathematician. Learning mathematics is not just about reviewing numbers and complex signs; it’s finding patterns in the world around us and using those to solve real-life dilemmas. There’s also a certain beauty to this subject. Math is a universal language. It doesn’t change from country to country or age to age. It can be used to help understand the worlds and lives of people on the other side of the globe. I can’t wait to build a culture with the students where we can embrace such a powerful tool.
Outside of the classroom, I love going on adventures with my wife, Melissa, or her little brother, Matthew. I spend my evenings and weekends reading, playing with our dog Barley, and connecting with friends through board games. If all else fails, you’ll probably find me in the nearest comic book shop sifting through the most recent issues of Ms. Marvel or Spider-Man.
See you in the classroom!

Finals Week!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Can you believe we are one week away from the end of the first semester? This year, we have been working diligently to provide a high quality and rigorous academic program for our high school students. After experimenting with many different opportunities during these post-FRCC weeks, we made the decision this year to implement Final Exams. We believe Final Exams are an important way for students to demonstrate knowledge in a content area, and we hope that students maintain a high level of focus all the way to the finish line.
Monday, December 17th is a full day for all 9th-11th grade students (and 12th grade students who have Westgate classes). Finals will take place on Tuesday, December 18th and Wednesday, December 19th. Your student only needs to attend school during his or her final. Yes, you read that right! If your student only has one final on Tuesday, they only need to come to school during that one final! If your student needs to stay at school, we have supervised study rooms available all day. Thursday, December 20th is a half day for all students. Students needs to attend school on Thursday, December 20th from 8:00am-11:30am.
Please see the Final Schedule below and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
