Algebra I (9A)

Course Description

Posts

Week 05/13 - 05/17

Last Week: We learned to graph parabolas and began examining how they form based on the various variables.

This Week: We will finish our examination of the variables in the vertex form of the parabolic equation and use this knowledge to explain how parabolas would move without needing to graph them.

Due by the end of the week: None

Week 05/06 - 05/10

Last week: We practiced factoring in all of its forms and took a quiz.

This week: We will begin learning about parabolic equations in vertex form and use it to draw and translate parabolas.

Due by the end of the week: None

Week 04/29 - 05/03

Last Week: We learned to factor trinomials when a is not equal to 1.

This week: We will apply our factoring knowledge to solve real-world problems and begin using vertex form to draw parabolas.

Due by the end of the week: Factoring Trinomials (a not 1) sheet

Week 04/22 - 04/26

Last Week: We reviewed basic factoring and used this process to convert quadratic functions from standard to intercept form (a = 1)

This Week: We will learn to factor more complex standard functions (a not = 1)

Due by the end of the week: Factoring Trinomials practice

Week 4/15 - 4/19

Before break: We learned to factor simple problems before taking a midterm.

This week: We will use our knowledge of factoring to factor simple trinomials, changing them from standard form to intercept form. We will also be helping the younger grades to plant seeds for part of class each day.

Due by the end of the week: None

Week 03/18 - 03/20

Last Week: We reviewed our semester's learnings thus far before taking a midterm.

This Week: We will prepare for the PSAT, which occurs shortly after spring break.

Due by the end of the week: None

NO SCHOOL Thursday 3/14

Due to road and weather conditions, Westgate will be closed tomorrow. Enjoy the snow and stay safe and warm!

NO SCHOOL Wednesday 3/13

Due to weather, there will be no school tomorrow, Wednesday 3/13, for any Adams 12 schools. This may go without saying, but clubs for the day are also cancelled.

Week 03/11 - 03/15

Last Week: We learned about the intercept form of equations, which can be used to find zeros on parabolas. We also began learning about the process of factoring.

This Week: We will learn a little more about factoring before beginning to review for the midterm, which will take place on Thursday.

Due from last week: Intro to Factoring sheet

Week 03/04 - 03/08

Last Week: I was out a day, so students took time to review equations using polynomials before taking a quiz. We also had time to begin learning about FOIL and multiplying binomials with trinomials.

This Week: We will continue our work with quadratics by learning to find factors and zeros for equations in intercept form.

Due from last week: Multiplying Polynomials review

Week 02/25 - 03/01

Last week: We learned to put polynomials in order using their exponents. We also learned to multiply polynomials by another factor.

This week: We will quiz over what we've learned about polynomials before applying our knowledge to factoring -- the basis of graphing parabolas.

Due from last week: Ordering Polynomials, Multiplying Polynomials

Week 02/19 - 02/22

Last week: As we only meet once (we didn't meet on Kindness Day), we took time to review and quiz over simplifying radicals and doing equations with radicals.

This week: We will begin studying exponents and basic factoring.

Due by the end of the week: None, unless you need to make up the quiz.
