I want to take a moment to congratulate and praise all the hard work that our students put into completing and presenting their Physics Phair Projects! As always, I was blown away with the talent and intelligence that I saw throughout the rooms of the 7/8 Pod on Wednesday night. I know that many of them had at least a little help from parents, if nothing else, for being there to watch them and their peers show off their awesomeness, so a big thank you from me to you, as well!

As always, if you have any questions, please contact me directly. Thank you and have a Wonderful Westgate Week!

This week in Science, students will:
  • Participate in a Dry Run (practice) of their Physics Phair with the 9th Graders critiquing them.
  • Present their Physics Projects at the Physics Phair Wednesday, May 15, from 5:30-7:30pm.
  • Complete an activity over fluid and power.
PLEASE REMEMBER the Physics Phair is this Wednesday. Your student signed up to assist with setting up (3:30-5:00) or with tearing down (7:30-9:00). They are graded on this component. CHECK YOUR EMAILS  for more details over the Physics Phair.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact me directly. Thank you and have a Wonderful Westgate Week!

SCIENCE UPDATE (MAY 06- MAY 10):

This week in Science, students will:
  • Create their Tri-Folds for the Physics Phair (Tri-Folds are being provided, but some students are choosing to bring in their own).
  • Signing-Up for their spot in either Building Up or Tearing Down the Physics Phair.
  • Demonstrating different real-life forms of Forces to their class.
  • Learning about how Centripetal Force affects motion.

PHYSICS PHAIR UPDATES!

Dear 8th Grade Parent(s)/Guardians,

On Friday, students spent time making formal invitations to give to their family and friends for the Physics Phair. The invitations should have all the information on them for you to be able to find your student's presentation on the night of the Physics Phair.

The Physics Phair takes place on Wednesday, May 15th from 5:30pm-7:30pm. The Phair will be located in the 7/8 Pod with each classroom (and Pod) having a different theme. Please remember that all students will be required to sign up for a slot in either helping set the Phair up or clean up afterwards. These slots will be available starting tomorrow (May 6) and can be located on the Sign Up Genius that I will be sharing with students during Science.

I am also interested in volunteers to help with different aspects of the Phair. If you are interested in helping, please contact me directly and I can give you a list of ways in which you can help!

If you have any further questions, you may also contact me directly. Thank you!

SCIENCE UPDATE: APRIL 29- MAY 3

This week in Science, students will:
  • Write, edit and revise, and finalize their Physics Phair Write-Up.
  • Create formal invitations to send to their invitees for the Physics Phair (watch for your's to be coming!)
  • Participate in a "What's Your Speed" Lab and Data-Collection Activity.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact me directly. Thank you and have a Wonderful Westgate Week!

SCIENCE UPDATE: APRIL 22- APRIL 26

This week in Science, students will:
  • Participate in a Lab over Newton's Laws ("Changing Speed of a Ball").
  • Research their Physics Phair Project and how to complete a Scientific Experiment on it.
  • Complete a Lab over Friction.
As always, if you have any questions, please contact me directly. Thank you and have a Wonderful Westgate Week!

PHYSICS PHAIR PACKET_2019

THE 8TH GRADE PHYSICS PHAIR WILL TAKE PLACE WEDNESDAY, MAY 15 FROM 5:30-7:30pm IN THE 7/8 POD. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND.

Please take some time and go over the packet with your student. This is an amazing, end of the year project and your student is super excited to talk to you about their plans!

SCIENCE UPDATE: APRIL 15- APRIL 19

This week in Science, students will:
  • Continue to define their Physics Phair Projects. Students must have their project approved by parents before I will approve them!
  • Complete a Deduction Activity over Newton's Laws of Motion.
  • Participate in a Lab over Newton's Laws of Motion and then use the data to graph and analyze how different factors affect speed, as well as how Newton's Laws work in the Real World.
Please take notice that the Physics Phair Packet will be posted this week for parent(s)/guardians to go over with their student. The Physics Phair will take place May 15 from 5:30- 7:30 pm in the 7/8 Pod. All students will be expected to attend.
