Holiday Shoppe Update 12/3/2018

Holiday Shoppe!!

Preview-Monday at lunch/quiet time (students with money will be allowed to shop) Students will not be allowed in the shop any other time without money.

If you are sending money with your child, please make sure it is in a baggie or a sealed envelope with their name on the front.  Please do not send your child with cash in their pocket.

Tuesday - Friday

  • Lunch/Quiet Time: Students with Money only. Up to teachers how many students from each class can come shop at same time but the shop will probably have a limit of 10 students at once to minimize risk of shoplifting and reduce lines for checkout
  • 3:15 - 4:30: Shop open for students with money or students with a parent

General Rules for the Shoppe

  • No money = no shoppe access (except Monday lunch or with an adult guardian)
  • No loitering. If you haven't figured out within 10 min what you need, you need to return to class until next day, so another student can come shop. Parent Volunteers should be on-hand to help our littlest shoppers figure out their carts. If there are High School students who would like to be "Buddy Shoppers" during K-4 lunches, we'd be happy to accept 1-2 student volunteers per lunch.
  • No backpacks, hoodies, coats or large purses inside the shop
  • Shoppe will NOT be open unless there are at least 2 adult volunteers working the shop (Ideally 3-4 per shift)
  • Anyone caught or suspected of shoplifting will immediately be reported.

Winter Parent/Teacher Conferences

Hello Westgate Families!

It’s time for Winter Parent/Teacher Conferences!  They will take place on Thursday, Dec. 20th from 12:40-8:00 and Friday, Dec. 21st from 8:00-8:00 PM.   Please note that Thursday, Dec. 20th is an 11:30 dismissal and there is no school on that Friday.

Please sign-up for a start time in one of the available time slots. You will only sign up for one start time per team per student.

For winter parent/teacher conferences, we will be doing 20-minute conferences for all teachers- classrooms and specials. To sign up for a conference with the specials teachers, you will need to sign up on their conference form.

In requested teacher’s field, please tell us which teachers you feel would be most beneficial to meet. Teachers will have the final call on who is meeting at each conference, but we will take your requests into consideration.

Sign-ups will close on Friday, December 14th.  If you have questions about scheduling a conference, please contact [email protected]

Safety Update

Dear Parents,

Due to the increasingly aggressive nature of the soccer and football play at recess, K-4 is banning the possession and use of all soccer balls and footballs at school for the duration of the second quarter.  We are seeing many fights and a lot of very aggressive behavior that is resulting in injuries daily so we will try again after winter break to integrate sport play into recess.  For the remainder of the quarter, no one is allowed to bring or use a ball on the playground.  Any balls brought to school will be confiscated.  Thank you for your help in this matter.  Please let us know if you have questions or concerns.

Halloween:

Halloween K-4 Carnival

Halloween Class Parties 2:30 – 3:15PM

Sign up for Halloween Party!

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4DAEAA2AA7FA7-halloween

These are student parties, not family parties.

  • Please do not come to school for the party unless you are a volunteer with a background check through the school.  All volunteers must be approved by the Team.
  • No young children may accompany volunteers for Class Parties
  • All food and drink donations for the festivities can be left at the front desk or brought into school by the students in the morning.

Halloween Costume Expectations

Costume expectations for all students:

No Masks

No Full Face Paint (except what a student can apply themselves in the time they have to get ready before class parties).  Face paint may not be worn to school.

No Weapons or anything that can be used as a weapon

No inappropriate or offensive costumes

1st – 8th Grades - May NOT WEAR THEIR COSTUMES TO SCHOOL.  All students will be given time to change into their Halloween costumes.  Students will be in regular classes during the morning.

Advocacy Theme for October:  October is Bully Prevention Month, we will be doing a variety of activities to empower students to advocate for themselves against bullies.  We will also discuss the differences between being mean and being a bully.

Definition: For a student’s behavior to be considered bullying, it must involve (1) an intent by the perpetrator to cause physical or psychological harm to the victim, (2) a power imbalance between the victim and the perpetrator, and (3) repeated negative acts.

Qtr. 2 Club Sign Ups:  Club sign up fair will take place Monday after school in the front lobby.  This will be a great place to pick up permission slips and also find out about all the cool clubs being offered this quarter!   This information is also available at westgateschool.org  under the academics tab.

Scooters:  Your child is welcome to bring their scooters to school as long as they have a helmet.  If your child chooses to bring their scooters, their scooter needs to remain at school until Friday.  Scooters cannot be taken home daily.  It causes a lot of delays/issues during carline trying to load them.

Toy/Electronic Policy:  Students are welcome to bring an appropriate toy for use at recess ONLY.  This item should fit in their backpacks and will not be allowed in class.  Electronics, such as a Gameboy or tablets, should not be coming to school.   Finally, there is no trading, buying, and/or selling of cards or other items at school.
