Science: This is the last week for this class: we will do a writing project “If I was an astronaut in space… and another poster to display showing each group's favorite planet.

Ask your child what they liked best about the study of the planets.

Science: We are beginning a unit on space. This week it will be on the planets with the emphasis on our planet earth.

This week, ask your child to give you two facts about our planet.

Science:  The 3 forms of energy: heat, light, and sound.

 As your child what experiments we performed this week to understand one of these

 As your child about the seeds we planted

We will be finishing up our journals in science today and then will be switching to Social studies on Wednesday.  Students will be in Ms. Kowalski's class for the remainder of the quarter. 

This week we will continue investigating light, shadows, and how light works.  

In science this week we are exploring light and light waves.  We will be doing a couple of mystery science activities and watching the magic school bus explore light waves and colors.  

In science this week we will continue exploring sound waves and how we can make sounds.  We will also look how we can impact sound waves to change a sound.  At the end of the week we will start moving into light waves by thinking about sources of light and doing the 3rd mystery science activity. 

Welcome back!  In science this week we will be starting our unit on waves with a focus on sound waves this week.  We will start with some exploration of sound and be doing a lab around creating sound waves at the end of the week.  We are using the Mystery Science lessons to support our learning during this unit.  You can find more information at this link if you are interested.

 

If you have toilet paper tubes or empty Kleenex boxes that you can send in for us to use that would be super helpful.  I only need a few more for the class and your help is greatly appreciated! 

This week in science we will be focusing on observations and the scientific method.  Mrs. Valenza will be coming in to help us be more aware of our surroundings and discuss how the students can be avid observers of their world.

I am excited to begin science with your students on Monday, 8/20.  Your student will be working on science in my classroom from 12:45 to 1:45 for the next few weeks.  In this first week we will be getting to know each other a little bit, going over what makes someone a scientist, what tools do a scientist use, and introducing the scientific method.  If you have any question please feel free to email me anytime.
