5/6 Music Week 2

This week, students will perform their first song in small groups and then move on to the next song, practicing reading music in groups.

5/6 Music Week 4

This week, students will learn their last song of the rotation: Ob-La-Di by the Beatles.
 
This song is much more challenging than the previous ones, but it combines all the skills they've learned thus far.

5/6 Music Week 3

This week, students will be working on playing and singing "ah, poor bird".
 
They will work on playing it in a round while keeping the guitar, marimba, and vocal parts all together.
 
They will also be working on rhythms through Rhythm Basketball.

5/6 Music Week 2

This week, students are learning two new songs.  
 
First, they will learn "Merrily We Roll Along" and play it in small groups.  They are learning how to play together with multiple parts (vocals, guitar, marimba) by utilizing steps to read music.
 
Next, they will play "Ah, Poor Bird" which will focus more on singing technique and playing in a round.

5th and 6th Music Week 1

This week, students will be introduced to sight reading a piece of music.
 
They will learn the steps to take in order to read new music.  Then they will choose from 3 options: Singing, Guitar, or Marimba.  They will work in small groups to problem-solve and perform the song as a band.  
 
 

5/6 Music Week 4

This week, students will be learning their most complex song yet.
 
They will play Ob-La-Di by the Beatles, learning the marimba part, the lyrics/melody, and the guitar part. 

5/6 Music Week 2

This week, students will receive a new piece of music.
 
This time, they will work with their groups to figure out the song.  They will be provided with all the resources they need to "decode" the song.
 
They will have the option of playing marimba, playing guitar, or singing and/or playing an instrument.

5/6 Music Week 1

This week, the students will be learning how to read a NEW piece of music.
 
We're going through steps:
1. Establish tempo
2. Count and clap the rhythms
3. Play the chords on guitar
4. Try the notes on the marimba
5. Put all parts together
 
This will help them to work together in a band in order to play several parts at once.

5th and 6th Music Week 5

This week, students will be playing through some of the songs we learned this rotation.
 
They will be playing in different groups and learning to work with peers.
 
Rhythm basketball will be played as well as some freeze dance.

5th and 6th Music Week 4

Students will learn a new song that has singing, marimbas, and guitar.
 
They will choose their part and work together in groups to play the song as a small band.
 
 

5th and 6th Music Week 3

This week, students will continue work on "Ah, Poor Bird".  
 
We will learn correct poster for singing, breathing exercises, and how to sing in a round.
 
Then students will add the guitar and marimba to the mix.

5th and 6th Music Week 2

This week, students will receive a new song which they will work through on their own (in small groups).
 
They will get sheet music that includes:
Guitar chords (lead sheet)
Lyrics
Notes for marimba
 
They will use this information and go through the steps we've learned in order to play together.
 
Then they will answer questions about Depth and Complexity concepts.

5th and 6th Music Week 1

This week, the students will be learning how to read a NEW piece of music.
 
We're going through steps:
